Ok - that's interesting and I appreciate the confirmation.

I'm glad you got the same results with the AIPQ/SR OSD as I did!

So I originally tested both USB3.0 and USB2.0 sockets on the Z9X 8K, BUT - I was using a USB2.0 Sandisk Cruzer Blade and I encountered stutter with that clip on both ports.

But it looks like this isn't an intrinsic issue with USB, more than likely to do with the connected USB sticks.

I just tried a USB3.0 stick and the clip plays without any stuttering using that - I have had it on a continuous loop for the last 10 minutes!!

    Again, I appreciate the confirmation!

And that music really gets into your head!!!

After a year and a half, I'm already willing to accept any interface, as long as the movies don't twitch randomly.

I am pretty sure that the ability to roll-back the firmware would appease many users who have issues because they would feel empowered to choose whatever works best for them. Even if none of the firmware versions are 100% stutter free, the difference between 99.9% and 99.999% is still significant.

Unfortunately, Zidoo's developers have already accepted, with their decision against downgrades, that people who pay for their work will have to wait months for solutions.
For example, a year ago, we waited two months for a solution to massive stuttering problems! I am sure that it would take little effort to do a rollback FW and then search for the problem.
During this time, I was forced to buy an additional Zidoo Z1000Pro so that I could continue watching films.

That's what bothers me most about the Zidoo <-> customer relationship. To Zidoo, we are nothing more than testers with unlimited patience.

If we didn't have Mark, I have no idea how any of this would have worked out. Zidoo should erect a monument to him next to their headquarters.

Zidoo, if you don't start listening to your customers, who pay your wages, the next Zidoo media player release may well end up gathering dust on retailers' shelves.

I'm not sure you should point to the developers.
Most of the time, managers with an excel sheet, demand development to stop due to decreasing profit.

The monument for mark is a brilliant idea! if it wasn't for him I would have thrown the z3000 out of the window.

Thank you both for the vote of confidence, it's appreciated, although I'm not so sure about a monument :D:D

I'm not particularly brand loyal to any company and I don't expect a company to have a "relationship " with me...I do my research and then spend my money accordingly to meet my needs.
I bought my original Z9X because my NVIDIA SHIELD could no longer do all the things that I needed it to do.
I made my decision to upgrade to the 8K once the price was right and because I knew that Mark was on the scene.

My sentiments exactly....I did try to make that point in another thread, but, for whatever reason, it seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Have the UHD8000 on latest firmware and have zero stutter issues.
Also have it connected to (4) Synology NAS WIRELESS at 30 feet.
Only issue I have is before I play a 4k file I have to "resync" the router (unplug\replug) but only at startup.
After which it just plays flawless.

Today, while watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters S02E01 2026 ATVP WEB-DL 2160p DV HDR10+, the image froze and the media box rebooted itself. I found the moment where the freeze occurred, rewinded 30 seconds, and rewatched the same moment again, but there were no issues at the problematic section or for the rest of the episode. Firmware version 1.3.05

I'm not sure what I can add to the discussion at this point. I have stuttering for any 4k video pretty consistently.

    I have a Z9X 8K with a WD Black 10TB 3.5in 7200 RPM drive connected via SATA.

I also tend to transfer files to it by connecting a drive via USB 3.0 2.5in drive. The one I just tried with is a Seagate Firecuda 2TB drive.

With the drive connected via SATA, I get stuttering on any 4k video, no matter the video settings. On the USB connected drive, I get no stuttering and very nice playback.

Is this necessarily due to the drives themselves or the port they're connected on or some other issue with the BUS they connect through?

I also noticed as someone else above a lot of activity CPU on the Zidoo even with nothing really happening.

If there's something I can specifically test from others I'm happy to help. I'd really like to get the SATA drive working as I assume this should be the standard way to connect.

EDIT: One video where I get a ton of stuttering is Overlord (2018) 4k. I'm going to try and copy it back to the USB drive to see if that makes it better.

The Z9X 8K SATA port is actually just a USB port with a SATA bridge chip. Perhaps your external USB HDD uses a better USB-SATA bridge chip and therefore performs better?

I'm encountering a new problem that is random but very recurrent... I have TV series in 1080p 25Hz... when I launch an episode with HT, I get a black screen and my TV no longer receives a signal. The box display scrolls through 1 to 2 seconds and then returns to 0. When I press the back or stop button, the image reappears on my screen.
If I launch the same video with File Manager, it launches correctly. This has already happened to me with a movie.
I think it's mainly with 1080p (but I'm not sure because I can't reproduce it when I want to).

What happens when you press the resolution button on the remote and cycle trhough different settings?

Ok, that makes sense now. So what I'm seeing wasn't improved performance because of the USB port, it was actually because of the drive. The Seagate "Firecuda" is a hybrid drive that also uses flash memory. So any drive I attach that uses flash memory appears to read fast enough for 4k movie playback. Any HDD seems to encounter stuttering. I tried also with a WD Red drive and got the same results.

I just tried with a WD Blue SSD and a movie that has been problematic on every other drive played flawlessly. This tells me that the USB interface is highly likely to produce stuttering unless you're playing on the fastest bandwidth. If others with NAS or true SATA connections are not experiencing issues, it's likely because of this.

I was actually in the middle of building a NAS using unRaid so I'll see if that produces better results.

In my opinion, the USB-SATA bridge used in Zidoo is of poor quality or, even worse, the USB controller in the AML chipset is faulty.
