Let’s solve one issue at a time. You’re right you can’t really use earc without enabling some sort of hdmi control on most devices. LG requires “simp link” to be on on the tv so that audio passes to the receiver. I doubt CEC is the issue but I want to eliminate the possibility so I’ll disable it for some time on all my devices in the chain. I also hate CEC lol but keep the bare minimum on to support earc for the rare time I use TV apps.

It's been said a thousand times - CEC is the work of the devil. I am using at least 2 x CEC Blockers to eradicate it from my system - advice from this forum. I suggest you explore ways to avoid it including eARC - god knows why you want to use it. Yes I have experimented with it but it's crap. I forget what your Display is but using it as the centre of your system never really works - get yourself a decent AVR and use it instead for top quality sound output from your Zidoo.

    What I mean is

    1) I turn on my Zidoo/AVR/TV using my Harmony. AVR is set to Zidoo correctly. I decide to use TV apps.
    2) I bring up TV menu and AVR automatically changes to TV audio source. Later I decide to go back to Zidoo.
    3) Using TV I reselect HDMI2 to bring up Zidoo. The AVR should change to Zidoo source and TV to HDMI2. However the TV sits at a no signal screen. Using remote I force AVR to Zidoo source. 50% of the time this will work. The other 50% it will sit with no signal message and after about 30 secs the Zidoo reboots.

Wow you bring the harmony into this cec ***show as well.
    Pfffft the horror!
    Goodluck with that.
I stopped with the harmony because of the random reactions from 'modern' machines . Cec being root problem nr 1.

    @Markswift2003:
I didn't have too many problems with the Panasonic, and everything worked perfectly with the Z9X 4K, so you just have to want to make it work (Zidoo technicians).
Why say it's the devil's work? I have no problems with the Amazon Firestick, Nokia Streaming 8010, and STRONG Leap-S3 Pro Box Streaming... All these devices have CEC, which works very well... Only the Zidoo causes me problems...
So is it really the devil's work, or is the devil hiding in the Zidoo???

Interesting - I kind of think CEC is at the root of this despite pin 13 being dis on the Zidoo - I remember you said you use E-ARC which of course uses CEC and there's probably some interaction where the amp is expecting a CEC response from the the Zidoo but of course it can't get one.

I know you want Atmos from the TV apps so can't do this, but I just have TV audio fed to the amp via Toslink as I don't have Atmos where the TV is so I have CEC switched off on all devices, don't have a CEC-less adapter and the only issue I have is the known 24 hour standby thing (that the devs say they can't replicate!).

Z9X, Panasonic VT60, Pioneer AV, Harmony Elite with all CEC enabled and I've never had any major problems. (My old setup)

Nope, I speak from many years of experience in the Custom Install industry. I used to own one of the largest installation companies in the UK and that's where I get my view of CEC from after it was introduced in HDMI 1.2 (I think) ;)

I'm sure it's improved in the intervening years but I still steer clear and prefer a CI approach using my own discrete controls.

The minor problems are infuriating enough.

Look, it is true: it sort of works.
Nice for people that can understand the small differences and have a remote at hand to fix it.
For 99% of the population it's a ***show
I have my girlfriend at home and she can function without it, without the confusion of an harmoney or the confusion of CEC.
Just simple discrete commands. That is something i can explain.
CEC is insanity, sold, pure on marketing.

We can celebrate volume working on most of the devices. We can celebrate some devices actually functioning on some of the original features.
The consortium have introduced a large amount of extra uncertainties. Thanks! another decade of cec muck-ups.
Read about it on any forum about any machine. I have been on this HDMI road since the beginning and even without CEC it was a bumpy road and i don't expect it to get smooth before i diy.

We, the consumers, buy promises! Or even worse: we get a subscription to a promise.

I have a similar issue. Except, video works, audio doesn't. The only fix is to reset the Zidoo. This occurs 75%+ of the time. So I've basically started firing everything up and then turn the Zidoo off and back on again. 100% works as it should with the extra reboot. I've tried resetting devices and HDMI connections but it hasn't helped. Ironically, I too use a Harmony but that shouldn't make a bit of a difference.

It's not a biggy - that's why I've never reported it - until someone on here had a similar issue.

True, that's exactly what I would think when I decided to buy uhd8000

    HDMI CEC issue
I've found a workaround quite suitable which makes my system (Z9XX 8K > Denon AVR > LG C3) very useful friendly:
    1) On Zidoo booting, it wakes up the TV only. If TV is on, it remains like that.
    2) AVR on/off only when Zidoo is on... then it will recall the AVR.
    3) On Zidoo closing, it closes AVR if on. TV remains on.

If you can't fight it, play with its weapons!!

I've been working around so long and that's a good/acceptable result - halfway, maybe!!

Mine does the reboot thing randomly when i turn my tv/avr off despite having CEC turned off on all devices as well as having CEC blockers on my HDMI cable. It isn't that big of an issue so just been dealing with it. It isn't every time and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what triggers it. I cannot replicate it accurately, it just happens occasionally

Maybe fails because CEC is all off. Try to find a workaround.

I’ve disabled cec now on my lg tv, Apple TV, nvidia shield, Panasonic bluray, Yamaha AVR, z9x 8k and disconnected my Xbox and PS5 for now. Interestingly enough I can still use earc for tv apps with lg simplink (cec) off. On the Yamaha you can disable hdmi control but still have earc on. You just have to manually change to TV AUDIO. Let’s see how it goes. I now think this might work lol. Didn’t realize how many devices I had that had CEC on

EDIT: nope doesn’t work. Triggered a reboot just now. I’m convinced this is more of an hdmi handshake type of thing. When the receiver goes off and tv goes off, the 4K icon on the z9x led goes off. It’s handshaking with the devices in standby mode and detects it needs to change resolution. I believe this type of changing is tripping it up. Perhaps faking a custom edid would be a good workaround.

I also see the random reboots on my z30 8k when switching sources around on the hdmi

    ie
Ill tell Echo to start the living room .TV Denon 3700h ,Rotel for mains, Z30 ,The HDMI ambi light device and side top rear LED strips all come on

it can happen 2 ways ,as in , i can watch some stuff on the Zidoo then swap HDMI sources on the denon to go watch YT on the tv (OR swap straight to tv for YT )

After awhile on the other source ,if i then HDMI source swap on amp /TV back to the Z30 ,say 50 percent of the time ,the Z30 will do a reboot to resynch in

Its not everytime and does seem to be more time away on alternate hdmi source ,that triggers the reboot

Rarely if i escape out of something im watching ,to say ,go to next episode and i hit the back key too fast while its swapping back smb source ,it will also casrh box to a reset .Super rare so hasnt bothered me
