It's not a SOC limitation, it's a decision by Zidoo.

A decision that I think is wrong / misguided.

I think we should all pressure Zidoo to reconsider.

    you mean hardware related?
cause is strange there is no way to roll back....

in my case, shame on me,i was stupid to update when the box goes well.... i'm back from many months ,when the box gave stutter and audio dropouts to all users....its a pity,i feel idiot....everything goes well with 22 and 25....:mad::mad:

Please don't get me wrong, I had no issues with my UHD8000 and so far it is running smoothly on V1.2.40-_G

Just to repeat what I've said many times - security on the AML SOC isn't as robust as Realtek so since Zidoo have had IPR stolen by competitors in the past they took the decision to implement differential firmware updates - ie incremental files which don't hold the whole package and therefore can't be decompiled.

This makes reversion extremely problematic and precludes publicly releasing a full earlier release for emergency flashing as we had with Realtek.

I agree, it's a real PITA, but it is what it is. I'd be very happy if the decision was reversed but a secure way of doing it would be needed.

I don't know if that's enough, but I tested two P7 films, 12 Monkeys and 13 Hours, each running for 20 minutes. I couldn't detect any stuttering. I would say I would have noticed it, because I've become very sensitive to this since February.
Since I stopped using HDMI audio, everything has been running smoothly. I use the TV LED setting.

I suspect that in my case the problem was caused by the mediabox's unknown network activity

When I have time, I plan to pull out the network cable and repeat all the tests. Another issue is that there was nothing like this on firmware 1.2.22. Over three months, I only had to reboot the mediabox a few times due to some problems..

Let's not get carried away with conspiracy theories on "unknown network activity" - it's very easily seen network activity and will be simply device identifiers, firmware version, app usage stats, and crash reports. Nothing to do with the movies you play etc etc. Easy to see in Wireshark.

Also this particular activity only seems to apply to HT - when you look at Media Center, which I know you use, then the network activity is very bare and completely innocuous.

However, as we said, it will definitely be very interesting to see if your issues remain without the ethernet cable plugged in. But, as I say, let's not join the conspiracy theorists - anyone with an Alexa or using Siri is way more exposed!!

I understand this point of view, that's the easiest for them. But in this way they violate the rights of us customers, because they (Zidoo) impose solutions on us that are one-way and without going back. When we are on a road trip by car, it is normal sometimes to take the wrong road and then turn back. With Zidoo there is no such option. If you have arrived at the wrong place - understand the wrong software, then you have to stand and wait until they fix the mistake and move on. If someone steals from other software, then there is a court and if this option is used, then after such a verdict, it is unlikely that anyone will want to do this again. And Zidoo is doing the easiest thing with this differential software, but the problems remain with us - the customers. I ask Zidoo to once again consider and realize that they really make a mistake and fix it!

And again technical progress is destroyed by fear for theft.
It is such a sad story! The fear is so destructive an it has never provided the safety they were looking for.
The attempts are futile, borderline stupid and a waist of precious time and resources.
The list of techniques that suffered from this is endless.

Really? I don't remember a previous version of the firmware doing that.

Its done it almost daily for me ,ever since the Pro came out
I can move drives from the Z30 8K to my PC 2to 6 times a day ,and happens every time ,along with the Forced scan drive ,every time one is moved from Zidoo to PC ,with the scans always showing no errors
Move one of the drives from the z9x Pro ,in the bedroom or the usb drive on Deko samba usb share ,and none of the empty Folders are created and no fake Scan drive popups ,ever

Id transfer via smb cept that has tragiclly been too slow over the various model ranges ,and now ive just built a new win 11 PC ,well that cant see anything out on the network with win 11 over the top security BS ,thou the PC Can be seen from devices on the network thou hit and miss if it works . Plus id have to have the z30 8k powered up all day so its rasier to just swap drives quickly

Hello everyone - so what is a general consensus right now? It seems we should avoid this firmware due to returned stuttering?

Did the Z9X 8K ever have fan control? Went to check, as it seems to be running a little on the warm side.

If you want to be taken seriously then pejorative hyperbole really does not help.

A measured and sensible approach always works better.

It doesn't have a fan, but yes, it can run a bit warm - definitely not one to have sitting on other equipment. Mine is on 24/7 and sitting idle it's currently 29 degrees with full airflow and not sitting on other equipment.

I did have it sitting on top of a Vertex to begin with and that can run warm so they both ended up quite alarmingly hot so I 3D printed some standoffs.
