I’ve done the update for my curiosity and haven’t noticed any big difference so far. The only issue found was SMB services wasn’t connected but fixed with a power off/on.

Thanks for helping to get the Escape key function activated for keyboards! Small fries for some, but it made my day.

Wrt the above, the problem I find is because they're often the most popular and circulated, finding non hybrids isn't always easy, especially for non current stuff where seeding leftovers become the deciding factor of what's available. I'm pretty well versed on where to look so don't feel like that's my issue. DVTool looks a bit overwhelming for a reasonable amount of files.

Do you think an on the fly metadata selection option will ever be a thing on these type of boxes? Like a hot swap remote button or the pop up menu that allows you to go from the DV or HDR10+ layer to the base HDR10 without having to lock it in as a permanent setting in the settings menu.

Do and spent the evening with this maj. And everything is fine ... Nothing for me more, maybe a more impactful "sound"!

A nice easy way in is to use DDVT tool which is a batch file written for dovitool and all it's dependencies - but all wrapped up in one package you can download and just run - worth a look if you're interested.

I doubt we'll see on the fly selection purely because it would always require an HDMI resync which would be messy. It'd be a nice geeky thing though...

Just a few files. Most work perfect. I blame the files.
I am happy with the firmware as it is.

Just bit confused of all the sync options spread the settings....but right now...sound is in sync.

I am gonna look if the file is hdr and DV. I will try to remove one of them with DOVI scripts and see if the stutter goes away,

You've got a global sync in the player context menu for all audio and then on top of that, ones for DTS and/or Dolby only in the audio menu.

Most people won't need to touch any of them.

Lipsync can be confusing, especially when you take account latency inherent in some displays (mostly projectors) and the way that's reported in EDID and how AV amps etc deal with it that part of the EDID (or don't!). But generally, if the chain is setup correctly, you shouldn't ever have to worry about it.

Worst case is probably if you have a projector with say 195ms latency and are using a custom EDID in an HDFury device after the amp that doesn't include the latency info and you have a dodgy TrueHD file - that would be REALLY confusing o_O

I didn’t pay attention that the FRAME RATE PAUSE function doesn't exist anymore with the 8K model.
    How come ?

I was initially told it was because the HDMI sync time on the AML SOC was so fast that it wasn't needed anymore, but this isn't true because although the player does have a bearing on HDMI sync, it's primarily determined by the display or amp etc, so I think it's a vital function that's missing in these boxes.

It's been on my bug list since day one.

The HDMI sync lasts 8 seconds with an Epson projector so I agree with you, this function is still vital.

I'll see your 8 seconds and raise you 7 :)

My old JVC used to take 15s !!

At least my new one is less than 5s.

    Yes I remember that
The latest JVC HDMI sync are really fast:)

I've read the changelog many times, and I do not see that this firmware update makes the Z9x 8k Roon Ready. Is that a typo?

I noticed one issue on this new firmware that was not present on the prior one. I have some BDA Bluray Audio discs in BMDV format that I keep on my internal disc on my Z2000 Pro which is in my bedroom. I have a 20 TB HDD attached via USB 3.0 for my 4K movies/shows as I find my LAN speed is not sufficient to stream them from my PC. I also have a 2TB SSD attached via SATA I use to quickly transfer files I want to watch right away and not wait for them to transfer over SMB to the main HDD.

Long story short. On the prior firmware I could play the BDA discs over SMB and it would play no problem. The menu and visual elements played without issue but since the update, I just get a black screen but the audio plays. However if I copy the disc over to either of the attached drives, it plays as it should. These are not 4K video so there should be no issue and they worked fine prior to the update. Basically they play on the attached drives but any sort of streaming over the LAN via SMB only sends an audio signal without the video. It is only on the BDA discs. Regular videos over the same SMB from the same disc source in my Z2000 Pro play as they should.

    Any thoughts?

Ya, fair enough. Shame though. Seems like an interesting idea.

In a roundabout way, it could be seen as a fix to those files still complained about DV stutters because of the poor conversion decisions you spoke about.

Not really got an explanation for this - I know a lot of people complain about transfer speeds, but I always steer clear of those conversations because having the same players on the same firmware and not having any network issues there's not a lot I can add that people are prepared to believe.

But this is an odd one - obviously first thing to say is that with this or any other firmware I haven't seen any issues with playing BDMV or ISO content over SMB (other than known problem with Paramount discs which has nothing to do with transfer speed).

As a sanity check I just tried several 4K and 2K BDMV and ISO rips and all played perfectly over SMB.

If you get audio but no video, that means that the data stream is arriving intact - if it was a network speed issue I'd expect picture and audio but with pixelation and audio breakup - a blank screen usually means an unsupported video mode. It's a shame you don't have an HDFury - that would help diagnose this.

What worries me is you say "I find my LAN speed is not sufficient to stream them from my PC" because that does indicate LAN issues - either on the network itself or network cards. Again I have several PCs on my network of varying ages so with varying abilities of LAN cards (some will transfer at 80-90MB/s and some only 40MB/s) but in all cases there's plenty of overhead for actually playing files which play back in the order of 1/10 the speed the LAN is capable of and never at 100% duty cycle.

That said, I still can't understand why the symptoms you describe could be attributable to LAN speed.

When watching mkv files in Media Center, a file with the HEVC codec used, graphics (frame, file names) Media Center starts to pulse quickly. Sometimes after turning off Media Center it stops, sometimes Zidoo needs to be reset. Not all HEVC files cause this. It is irritating. (Z9X 8K - software 1.2.25_G)

Record a video of the blinking process. I had this happen once, but I didn't think to record it.
