No, other sources output the 4.0 just fine. (Foobar, oppo )

Check your naming. It works perfectly fine here using file names like: Star Trek Strange New Worlds (2022) S01E01 Strange New Worlds 2160p h265 Dolby Vision, HDR10 DTSHD-MA 5.1.mkv

Notice how my file names do not have any punctuation in the show name. Same as TVDB.

I use raw for both HDMI ports on the zidoo because it's supposed to be like the Oppo bitstream, I've always thought...
Should I keep them in the auto?
I only use output 2 anyway for audio, both for movies and music.

I'll try that. I use Sonarr which renames files - need to tweak it

EDIT: setting Sonarr to replace the colon with a space and not a dash has worked - thanks

Can confirm ...plays stereo (audio dvd / quad)

    Media info sees it;
    Audio
    ID : 189 (0xBD)-161 (0xA1)
    Format : MLP
    Format/Info : Meridian Lossless Packing
    Commercial name : MLP Lossless
    Muxing mode : DVD-Video
    Duration : 24 min 5 s
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Maximum bit rate : 9 600 kb/s
    Channel(s) : 4 channels
    Sampling rate : 96.0 kHz
    Frame rate : 1 200.000 FPS (80 SPF)
    Bit depth : 24 bits
    Compression mode : Lossless

If you rip them to flac, the zidoo shows them as 4 channel, but plays also stereo.

I use an HDFury Vertex 2 to check the signal - it shows channels, bit depth and sample rate amongst other stuff.

The only reason I advocate using Auto is because that honours the Audio section of the EDID - so if the EDID says it doesn't support a particular format then presumably the sink (amp etc) doesn't either so it stops the Zidoo outputting formats not supported by the sink.

Setting RAW simply bypasses that check, so regardless of the EDID, everything will pass through natively so if you send a format that the sink doesn't like it'll likely result in silence.

If you know that your sink supports all the formats you'll use then by all means use RAW - and there are rare occasions where I've seen an EDID say it doesn't support a particular format when in fact the sink does.

As i said before. even in raw it checks the compatibility and acts acordingly!

Question: if the HDfury reports 96Khz/16bit; what does the zidoo say it is playing?

No so - I just tested with an EDID restricted to PCM only (8 channels, all sample rates, all bit depths) and all other codecs are converted to stereo PCM if using Auto and are bitstreamed if using RAW.

It reports 96KHz/16bit but that's reporting the file properties and not necessarily the output.

Here you see a proper functioning dsd file being played but converted to PCM because my avr does not play DSD 128 over HDMI.
The zidoo output is raw so it should NOT convert but it does!

As far as I know the the only model to do native DSD over HDMI is the UHD8000 and in that case, only from the Audio only HDMI port - So nothing to do with Auto/RAW or EDID.

    Hello,

Any insight into if the next firmware for the Z30 pro will include Roon (not airplay Roon)

    and.....

If I have a current Z30 Pro and buy another - whats the best way to "mirror" the one I have setup (Posters) and Music?

    Thanks

As you can see the Z3000 is capable of outputting DSD 64.
The PCM conversion only happens with DSD 128. My AVR does not support DSD 128 Over hdmi
But acording to your RAW interpretation it should give me silence or DSD128
So i'm wondering what does RAW really mean.

I don't know for sure but my assumption would be that it doesn't support above DSD64 over HDMI and converts to PCM by default.

That's the max for a lot of amps over hdmi.

Although HDMI can support up to DSD256 (DSD512 is not defined in the spec) I also don't think many HDMI sources support over DSD64 and rely on USB connections to DACs for that, but it's not my area of expertise.

Yep, but I'll say again, DSD64 is the max for a lot of amps over HDMI. At the end of the day, most people into Hi-Fi go with the USB route for a reason.

Yes, but the point @svideo was making was that he thought RAW was reading the EDID which is why DSD128 was being transported as PCM with HDMI set to RAW.

I don't think that's the case - and EDID is certainly correctly ignored for all other codecs when using RAW which is why I think HDMI is restricted to 64.

    S'pose I could ask...
