Yes - EDID can be a pain - sources should cope with dynamic EDID changes (eg an amp modifying a display EDID) but it's not always pretty! Also some intermediate sinks, particularly soundbars for some reason, have a habit of truncating EDIDs which can lead to a confused source. My equipment is all well behaved in that respect, but I still wouldn't be without a Vertex.

 

I thought I would follow up my own post and report that the ‘shutting off’ problem on my unit turned out be an issue with one of the HDD. No idea why, it didn’t seem to be a temperature issue, but swapping out the drive sorted it out. So for the couple of users reporting similar issues you might want to give that a try.

 

Obviously this bug has not been fixed yet by the latest firmware

 

It's not been mentioned, so as far as I know it hasn't been fixed. But if I'm honest I haven't checked recently.

It does need fixing though because it's quite a catastrophic bug for those that use 2.35 modes.

 

Trust me, don't try !

 

They are NOT media player units though, so that is a rather lame comparison.
