If you can provide me with a file that quantitatively demonstrates this oversharpening I'm happy to pass it on.

From my subjective tests so far, it looks like oversharpening has been addressed in 1.2.05.

Nope the over sharpening is still there in 1.2.05.

These settings don't do anything visually in my tests when I turn them on and off. Dune is still less sharpened than these sharpen settings at OFF on the Z9x 8K

Try the Spears & Munsil Sharpness Test Pattern - you'll see the difference then but it's subtle.

I might be wrong, but I think Dune just softened the image. They've applied a few questionable patches recently which have been a kind of halfway house and have stretched licencing slightly which may well explain a few things.

Ok I will check the patterns.

I doubt the Dune is wrong because DMD Reviews seems pretty pro in his analysis and I can see the over sharpening on some content like lines on a shirt. Granted, it was worst on the Dune than it is on the Z9X 8K before the Dune patch, so much that I couldn't watch it. The Z9X Pro also seems to sharpen a tiny bit but it's less than Z9X 8K and Dune is less than Z9x Pro.

It's hard to say who has the right intended picture.

Nobody has the "intended" picture - the only way you'll ever see that is on a PVM using the original master off an Avid in the original grading theatre and I have friends and colleagues who do that, but you won't find it anywhere else.

I absolutely appreciate it if you prefer the Dune picture and if that's the case, use a Dune by all means, but don't believe that either box has the "intended" picture. I can make a list of things Dune gets wrong vs the Zidoo and vice versa, but it's all a balance.

Beyond that, every video image from every device is processed in some way or other and every device is different. I have a great deal of respect for DMDReview, but I honestly don't think he ever watches movies.

I harp on about test patterns every now and again, but the ultimate test for me is sitting in a dark room with a 9ft screen, a glass of Italian wine and a sound system that moves furniture - and for that I'll go with a Zidoo every time. I have several Dunes here, including one with CoreElec on it that plays FEL and if I felt differently I'd be on the Dune forum helping there.
