To those of you experienced cinephiles. How good is the Zidoo's upscaling capability, specifically 1080p to 4k. In the past I have always set my AVR to passthrough and let my display (somewhat older Sony 4k 850c tv , Vivitek HK2288 4k projector) to the scaling but several reviewers on youtube report the Zidoo is better for upscaling than displays but the reviewers really have nothing to back that up and not a lot of "street credit" to trust them blindly.
I tried it on my TV (SONY X95L) and for me the upscaling from the TV is better, but it is a PENTONIC 1000 chipset and it is much stronger than the REALTEK 1619BPD.
Very good. The upscaling capability of the 1619BPD is significantly better than the 1619DR and that was no slouch. We're not talking Lumagen or MadVR good, but not far off and I'd chose it over a display's capabilities any day. I use a Z9X in my cinema and have Z9X Pros on my flatscreen and in both cases I set the GUI to 4K23 and Frame Rate Mode to Match Frame Rate Only so everything scales to 4K in the Zidoo. But the bottom line is try it both ways and use what you prefer. If I'm honest, with real world content, I'd be very surprised if you see any difference either way, and if that's the case, use the Zidoo because it will reduce HDMI syncs.
