T8 extremely slow storage and file copy?

I've been moving some files to the local storage of my T8 and noticed it's extremely slow. Has anyone had a similar experience? I wonder if it's a bug or a feature.

WiFi - connected through WiFi6, negotiated link speed 1.2GBps. Actual file copy speed - 12-15MB/s
Wired - connected to a 2.5Gbps switch, negotiated link speed 1Gbps. Actual file copy - 20MB/s

Both copying to the internal storage, or an external SSD (970 EVO Plus 1TB) is so slow.

I even tried Speedtest on Firefox directly on the T8 and was only getting 120-150Mbps, which is kinda in line with the copy speed I'm seeing. What is up with that, Eversolo?

The file-copy speed is affected by many factors, few of which are protocol negotiation, crc-verification, link-stability check, file-open-call, file-write-call, file-verify-call (this takes up some time, comparable to the initial chunk-request...), packet-loss resends, host verification, channel-sharing (by your router) and possibly few other things in the middle.
Long story short: you'll never get 1.2GBit pure transfer-rate on wi-fi. Truth is, though, that you should get very close to 80MB/s... is your place RF-polluted, are the 2.5GHz (or 5GHz) channels too crowded?

Absolutely but as I stated, the same occurs when using wired connection.

This network file-copy is irrelevant of cable or wireless. It is considerably faster on cable, but that's just the mere data-transfer; all the other things take up almost the same time.
Repeat for every packet and you can get the picture. Add a SMB layer on top of it to have another set of redundancy checks, etc etc etc...

Still, it should not be 13-20MB/s. That's not right.
The A6 I had before was much faster and they both run the same SoC.

Try a direct USB connection, faster than any of the network options. Ensure the OTG port setting is set to PC rather than mass storage.

Guys! I feel like we're on different radiowaves. 20MB/s of writing speed is wrong when the A6, utilizing the same SoC, was over 3 times faster on the exact same connection. No matter if it's WiFi, wired or whatever.

So either there is a serious bug in the software or there is a hardware problem in the T8.

You might have a point, then. Sure.

    Hi,
I confirm these actions are extremely slow. Even connecting a computer (MacBook Air) by USB, I just can't get access to the SSD content : it keeps loading for hours. I admit my SSD is kind of heavy with over 2 tb of music, and I think I remember someone telling me things went a bit faster with a PC. I end up taking the Ssd out of the Eversolo and connecting it to the Mac directly, from time to time.
Now I have a question, maybe a naive one : one you've added one or a few new albums to the SSD, do you have to numerize the whole library to get access to it, or is there a way to just numerize the newly added albums?
    Thanks!

I had the same speed (about 16-20MB/s) with either the A6 or the T8 over 350MB/s Wi-Fi Samba.
Its just slow and always has been.
I originally (2023) copied my library directly from an external USB SSD (backup) to the A6 internal SSD which is about 8-10 times faster and then recently just moved the internal SSD from the A6 to T8.
I only use the Samba copy for new items as it just take a minute to copy.
I then do a Library update (not re-scan) which only takes a minute or two.

Interesting, it's a shame I don't have the 6 and 8 anymore but IIRC the A6 used to be a lot quicker, but still slow.

I have a T8 and my previous A6 is also still in my system as a backup. I was using SMB to move files around on both streamers the other day, they were both fine but slow. Definately faster to copy from external USB connected drives than via network.

I moved 1TB+ of files to the T8 and it was slow as well, but my router is far away and I didnt expect super fast transfer speeds. Took 48 hours to complete, was going to switch over to wired if it didnt finish but everything finally got copied. Was going to resort to an external SSD enclosure for $15 but it finished the copy job in enough time to cancel the order from Amazon. Otherwise, things are working as expected...I suppose don't spend a lot of money on high end internal SSD drive as it won't make much of a difference in this unit.

It doesn't matter if it's wired or WiFi in this case, the interface to the SSD just doesn't perform.
I decided to get rid of the T8. Sounds meh and has it's problems like slow storage. I wanted a standalone streamer, without having to use Roon etc.

Very much, no idea where all that hype about SQ comes from. Maybe mostly paid reviewers?

Are you saying it merely sounds the same/just as good as something like a WiiM (as in you expected it to sound clearly better), or are you saying it actually sounds less good than other streamers?

Any reviewer without providing actual numbers is just telling you what they think they hear, which never is a guarantee about what you may hear.

I don't know how a WiiM sounds, however despite some saying digital is just 0's and 1's, there is quite a lot one can tinker with using DSP and software in general to cause significant SQ differences between sources.
I've noticed that the T8 sounds a bit like it has emphasis on the high frequency, bit of a 'short term wow factor' kind of sound.

I would love to have access to an APx555 to compare the T8 to other sources like WiiM or even a CD (the latter only if the source material is 100% identical).
