    Hello,

I recently bought the A8 and I like it a lot. Now I'd like to add an SSD drive but I can't find any information about the max. thickness of compatible drives. Is there any official information about this?

Ideally I would like to use a drive with a heat sink but I'm doubtful those will fit. Then again I don't know if that's even needed or if a simple thermal pad will do. Or maybe heat isn't even an issue?

What drives are you guys using and are you doing anything about heat dissipation?

    Best regards,
    Sascha

I use a Crucial 1 Tb P3 SSD in my A6 as is, absolutely no problems in any respect over 1.5 yrs now.

I'm using a crucial P3+ 2TB straight out the box on my A8. No problems so far. Really pleased with its performance, no issues as yet

I use a Crucial P3 4TB Gen 3 SSD in my DMP-A6 and have done so for over a year without any issues whatsoever. SSDs generate very little heat when been read from compared to been written to. Considering the low write speed to the SSD when installed in your eversolo and thereafter mostly read from, the issue of heat dissipation is IME minimal. It's not operating like a M.2 SSD installed in a gaming PC or workstation which may constantly be written to at high speed and thus generating potentially a lot of heat. I've checked my naked Crucial SSD in operation using a thermal camera and it is barely above ambient temperature.

I just installed a Western Digital WD_BLACK 8 TB SN850x NVMe drive on my DMP-8A... despite all the documentation claiming 4TB is as high as it will go, the 8TB NVMe works just fine... at playback the drive temp is hovering around 135 degrees F without any type of heat sink.

Thanks for the heads up. Can you verify that the eversolo can actually access (both read and write) all of an un-partitioned 8TB volume? That is, more than 4TB of data stored on that 8TB drive. Only asking as some devices will accept drives with large capacities but may not be able to actually use the full capacity of the drive. Did you format it as NTFS or exFAT? Also did you format the 8TB SSD inside the eversolo or extenally using say a PC? Apologies for all the questions but I'm in the situation where I've used up nearly all of the available capacity on my 4TB drive and I'm looking for ways to expand this without having an external drive attached.

Thought it best to post here rather than start a new post. I'm thinking of upgrading my A6Me to the A8 (happy with the sound but need more inputs), if I do can I just swap my 4tb SSD to the new A8 without reformatting/losing my data?

Yes, the A8 will see the SSD as just another drive like your A6Me did. No need to re-format or re-load your data. If however, your A8 doesn't seem to recognise all the tracks on your existing SSD you may need to re-scan your library after you've installed the SSD in your new A8.
