SACD ISO Patcher — a tidy SACD library on your Eversolo

Gave SACD ISO Patcher a big update - jumped straight to 2.0.0. The last one in this thread was 1.2.0, so here's what's changed.

The main thing: you can now put track titles on any disc. Before, if a disc had no text block, you just couldn't add them. Now the program makes room for them on its own - you type them in and save.

What else is new:
- Pretty much every tag is editable now: title, artist, publisher, copyright - for the album, for the disc, and for each track. Plus catalog numbers, date, disc number in a set, genres and ISRC. You can even add a second language to a disc, Japanese for example, with phonetics.
- Built my own audio export to files: DSF, DFF (DSD), DFF (DST - an exact copy off the disc) and Edit Master. No more third-party tools (sacd_extract). You pick stereo or multichannel and the tracks you want, then you can watch the progress and how much is left. Tags get written into the files too.
- You can pull data from Discogs or MusicBrainz (as requested) - by catalog number, by barcode, by artist and album, or just by pasting a release link. It grabs the cover art while it's at it. SACD editions show up first in the results, so you're not digging through regular CDs/vinyl/whatever.

About safety: before every write the program makes a copy of whatever it touches, and you can roll it back. But rips are irreplaceable, so this matters - keep your own copy of the image just in case.

And same as before: one file, nothing to install. Free, for Windows.

I added MusicBrainz, as requested, but half of the discs are missing there. Discogs is much better for me.

 

I did add a lot of SACD releases myself (very few classical ones, though). Can you give me one or two examples that are missing? Sometimes the MB search algorithm is a bit funky.

Good morning everyone, I just noticed this very interesting thread and I hope it solves my problems......I'm trying to make a small library with multichannel files that I listen to with my Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen2, since in the sacd iso there is always both the 2.0 and 5.1 track I'm extracting only the 5.1 tracks and I used two programs, Foobar2000 via the foo_dsd_converter plugin or Sonore's Iso2dsd, I noticed that there is a difference between the two when I put them in the Eversolo library, those extracted with Foobar only show me the album but not the name of the artist while those extracted with iso2dsd have both the album and the artist in the tags, since I know that the dff format (I extract in dst format to save space) does not support tags I don't know where they manage to get this information, anyway now I'm using Only iso2dsd because it extracts this extra information that Eversolo uploads to the library. The problem is that sometimes the artists aren't always named the same way. For example, I have Sara K and Sara K, and it creates two artists. Since there's the option to edit the ISO, that would be perfect, but I haven't figured out how. Is there a program, or is it all done on the Discogs website? Another problem I'm having is that now I only have dff files and no ISOs. Is there a way to edit these files, or do I have to edit the ISO first and then extract them with iso2dsd?

I don’t know how iso2dsd works, as I was never interested in it, so I cannot say anything about it. DFF does support metadata, but not in the same way as DSF, which supports ID3 tags. DFF has its own fields where metadata can be written. My program works only with SACD images, meaning SACD ISO files. When extracting DFF files, as well as DSF, DFF-DST, and DFF-Edit Master files, it can write the album title and artist into them. There are certainly many programs for editing individual files, but there are no programs for editing SACD ISO files. That is exactly why I wrote one. The original reason for writing this program was the same issue you had: Eversolo showed two different artists in the library when the same artist was not written identically in different SACD ISO files. But this is not an Eversolo problem; it is a metadata problem and an issue with whoever authored those SACDs.

 

Thanks, I’ll check why this release is not found on my side by the catalog number FCD-CCR2-4. Tell me, please, is this link the most complete description of the MusicBrainz API, or is there something else that is more complete, like a spec?

You are slightly mistaken: DSD is the audio part itself, while DFF is a wrapper for it - a container, meaning a file. Here is a short explanation of what is what

I noticed a problem with matching releases to discs, though, and that is due to the way the MB community forced me to submit releases: Originally I had submitted every layer as a separate disc but got voted down a lot. Now I have to write stereo and mc tracks into a single disc which obviously doesn't match the single-layer-style in which your app shows contents.

I thought about asking for a feature which would allow each layer to be edited separately but I am not sure if that would interfere with the Eversolo automatically playing the user defined layer preference of an ISO.

 

I’ve never come across multichannel SACDs that contain only multichannel audio and no stereo. Nor have I ever seen separate tracks for stereo and multichannel. So why would separate editing be needed if the tracks are always identical in both layers? If an SACD is released as multichannel, the content is the same there.
Possibly, if I finish implementing full custom authoring, separate editing will be available there, and everyone will be able to do whatever they want - putting different tracks on the multichannel layer and the stereo layer. For now, since such discs do not exist, this is simply unnecessary. The release is one release - multichannel + stereo - and that is correct.

 

First, launch the program and tell me what exactly is unclear to you there. Read the first post, read the README…

simply use DSF instead of DFF. Then, if something is missing as TAGs, you can always fix it manually. This is the best advice I can give you, as I have been there before...

The DMP-A6 struggles with these kinds of disc as well and only offers the stereo tracks.

Granted, those cases are rare but they do exist.

 

Also, what do you think about letting the user define their own genres instead of just offering a fixed list?

 

I visited the Japanese website of the manufacturer of this disc (https://fixrecords.com/kiga2/). There is not a single word there about multichannel.

Discogs: Stereo is listed there too.

Give me, please, a link to the disc (preferably on Discogs) so I can buy it and check for myself that everything is exactly as you say. Assuming, of course, that you are 100% sure it really is like that and I won’t just waste my money

Very good question!

The disc stores only a number (an index) in the genre field, not text. The actual genre text, such as “Jazz” or “Classical”, is not written anywhere on the disc. The player takes that number and looks it up in the common standard reference table (the General Genre Table from the specification) which is built into the player itself. In other words, the number gets its meaning from the common table, not from the disc.

What happens if we “invent our own genre and our own index”:

• Our index falls into the range 30..65535, which the specification marks as “reserved”.
• The player takes this number, looks it up in its internal table, and finds nothing there. It will show “nothing” or “unknown”.
• Our custom name, such as “Progressive Doom” or “Acid Jazz”, has nowhere to be stored. The format simply has no field for a genre text string. There are fields for Title, Artist, Performer, Composer, and so on, but not for a “genre string”.

Analogy: it is like a postal code. You can write “postal code 999999” on an envelope, but the postal service does not know any such district, so the letter will not go anywhere. For a postal code to work, it has to come from a common reference table known to everyone.
