Review and need-to-know Eversolo DMP-A6 streamers (Gen-1 / Gen-2)

I have a question: when I turn on my integrated tube amp (Synthesis Roma), on the DMP-A6 Gen2 input, with the A6 off, there's a loud hum (ground loop?) which completely disappears as soon as I turn the A6 on.
I understand this is kind of a non-issue, since there's no noise with the unit on, but I'm curious nonetheless about the possible cause. I had a Z8 before, in the same exact configuration, and had no noise.

It most likely has to do with grounding indeed. Are both units connected to a common socket?
The A6 Gen2 has a Linear PSU which is disconnected with a relay when in power-off state.

They're both connected to a Panamax 5300 power conditioner.
Should I even bother investigating it?

If it does not disturb you then I would just leave it as it is.

Do we know yet if object-based music formats will be supported by the DMP-A6 in the future? On their roadmap?

    It is a matter of:
    1. software
    2. license(s)
While (1) could be relatively easy to implement, (2) would rather affect the price of the units; in a very sensible way...
Moreover, to be natively compatible, a unit should offer physical multichannel output, another pricey thingy, if you think about it. n(and yes... just forwarding the MCH through HDMI would just be a matter of obeying ti=o the first two points)

Thanks for the reply. I did some research and found that the payer of the license fees is the decoder, not the player. If you just bitstream out the HDMI port, the device on the other end is the decoder and thus the payer.

This is the current way that eversolo handles native dsd via HDMI.

Passthrough via HDMI for "3D" audio would be enough, because every AVR has those decoders. Meanwhile there is even Auro 7.1.4@96khz available (Pure Audio Streaming) and we have to use a Fire TV stick or Shield?!?

Passthrough for Auro would be nice, but to claim all AVR's include it? Mine does but many don't.

You´re right about Auro! But Atmos and probably DTS:X are included in nearly every AVR since many years.

Many use very expensive but often also relative old AMPs. Using my 4th Onkyo myself by now; increasing the quality/range and also the HDMI support for passthrough regarding not only audio but also video with every step (HDMI 1.3 => HDMI 1.4 => HDMI 2.0 => HDMI 2.1).

Relative young AMP's (lets say max 5-10 years) will normally include Atmos and the more expensive units most likely also DTS:X. As license cost is always a point DTS:X may be absent.
Luckily most BD albums and movies have Atmos as the standard with only a few using DTS:X. Auro-3D remained always exotic and is now owned by Goerdyna after several bankruptcies.
What their new Auro-CX is going to do in the streaming market remains to be seen.

Added paragraph till reported as solved. New cases keep popping up.

Pending to detail are apparent HW issues with the new Gen 2 units:

    - The unit may fail to power on after a short period of use.
    - The unit may produce nasty sounds when in standby
All within warranty time frames and Eversolo is informed/aware. Cause and fix not revealed neither affected serial number ranges (on bottom of unit).

Could be related both to the new "auto voltage range sensing"/standby LPS circuitry?
There seem to be problems mostly with the 100V-120V grid range?

    IMHO yes, it could.
Just as a crude example, in Europe we have the mains "fluctuating" among Nations (and within a single Nation) from 220-ish to 240-ish. My mains are on average about 237V (I live in Bulgaria, Eastern Europe), but when I was living in Italy, around 1980's, it measured 226-ish...

In most of Europe the target voltage has been very gradually raised from 220V (in the eighties) to 230V/240V. Peaks above 240V +10% are not uncommon due to solar panels raising it during days with a lot of sun.

There seem to be problems mostly with the 100V-120V grid range?

I live in France. I bought a DMP-A6 Gen2 on 07/17/2025 and 1 month later it no longer turned on. Apparently a power failure. It was connected to a multi-socket protection and filtration unit. Return under warranty. Expected delivery time of 2 to 4 weeks!!!

Just received a DMP-A6 Master Gen 2. Multi-channel music works perfect on it. Have the music stored on a internal SSD. This was the main reason for me to buy it. Have a Linn Akurate DS (2018 version) for stereo listening.

I have a very large collection of music stored on a QNAP NAS running Minimserver. Have almost 10 700 albums. To add this collection to the music library have been a pain in the ass. With UPnP the Minimserver crash after some thousands tracks. With SMB it works better. All albums added but some albums are not listed correct, like they are tagged. All albums are listed correct on other apps like BubbleDS, BubbleUPnP, USB Audio Player Pro and BluOS (Bluesound/SMB).

The perfect solution for me have been to let BubbleUPnP control DMP-A6 (dlna turned on). This have worked perfect for me. BubbleUPnP is super fast and easy to use. Sound is also excellent via XLR output. I can hardly hear any difference from Linn Akurate DS.

Yes for MCH it is still the only Eversolo choice. Never understood the why of this as many like me do listen to it a lot.

The only alternative I have is a Dune HD Max 8K with even marginal better sound via HDMI plus also BD albums playback (currently the only physical HD audio and MCH music album format). Lacking a nice library and only TV output next to using the adequate Dune APP what I do myself.

Still waiting for a fancy Eversolo player with HDMI replacing the A6 (T8 was big miss here again). Might be tempted to connect the coming DAC-Z10 to that Dune Max for just 2CH playback?
