Recommended Settings and other useful stuff for RTD 1619DR Player (HT PDF Complete Rewrite Aug 26)

Thanks for the answers, just one more question about the point #5.DV Compatibility Mode (LLVD Player Led) - should I change something here or should I switch to TV Led based on my other settings?

See which looks best - Most seem to prefer TV Led.

Thank you!

Hi Mark, I’m getting a HDFury VRroom soon, on order. I was going through this forum, around page 73 and came across a pdf named,
“Using Vertex 2 for LLDV on HDR Displays” from 2022. Would this still be relevant? I have a Z 30, and JVC RS1000 (NX5) projector. I want to try out tricking the projector for LLDV? Any help with HDFury and Z30 settings to get up and running is appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom

Yes, very relevant - the settings are the same on the Vrroom and Vertex2.

Only difference is you'd want to use Frame Adapt HDR rather than a fixed gamma curve and of course no need to download a custom gamma.

As long as you have an LLDV EDID and use a custom HDR message from the Vrroom, the JVC will think it's receiving HDR and act accordingly.

Yes, I do have Frame Adapt HDR turned on, on the JVC, good to know I should leave it on.
Thank you, appreciated!

Maybe it's already answered but it's 116 pages.

Zidoo Z10Pro

I'm changing my AVR to something newer with atmos and all the goodies.
Until now, I played dolby digital through optical coaxial.

With the new one I'm going to connect the player via HDMI on the AVR.

Can you tell me what AUDIO settings should I put on the player so that I can have ATMOS, etc ?

Setting it for Auto will be just fine...as the Zidoo will communicate with the receiver to see what it can handle.... if for some reason you are not getting a sound codec that you think you should, you can change to RAW..

Hi all, I've recently bought a hisense PL1 UST projector and I'm currently in the process of setting it up alongside my Z9X.
After playing a couple of clips from my movies (Avatar 2 and Maverick), although the detail was awesome, it seemed to lack that "pop" and seemed a little washed out.
After some experimenting, it seems that the output details are exactly the same when using both the standard HDMI setting and the Enhanced HDMI setting. I assumed that the Enhanced should be bringing something extra so did a little more testing.
As above, when playing maverick, the output signal is 3840x2160p @23hz RGB 8bits DV (TV-LED) when using both standard and Enhanced.

But what I did try was, i paused the movie, changed to standard HDMI then changed it back to Enhanced HDMI. And the picture was completely transformed. Colours popped and the detail and clarity were night and day different. The output signal in this case was 3840x2160p @60hz YUV420 10 bits ITU 709.

Am I right in assuming the latter output signal is what it should be? Or is my untrained eye deceiving me?
If this is what it should be, why do you think it doesn't auto start in this setting and I have to "force" it?

Thanks
Gaz

Standard vs Enhanced has nothing to do with picture quality, it's to do with HDMI modes that are used - probably best to leave on enhanced.

I think the problem here is that the Projector may not be very good at Dolby Vision, or the settings in the projector need calibrating.

Not sure how you got to it, but assuming the movie you played was either HDR or DV then output at 3840x2160p @60hz YUV420 10 bits ITU 709 is not good because it's using the Realtek engine to convert HDR to SDR and there are chroma issues when doing this. But even worse, it's at 60fps - so check the auto frame rate option - this should always be set to at least Frame Rate Only (see first post).

It may be that SDR is the best mode for the projector to use, but in that case you want to use the VS10 engine and that would require loading an SDR EDID on a 1619DR box because their HDR options are not as flexible as later models. In that case you would load an SDR EDID (see EDID thread) and use VS10 for all content.

Assuming the projector supports LLDV (I assume it does), another option is to set LLDV in HDR settings - this may yield better results than TV Led DV.

Thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciate it. So would you say the first output settings were maybe correct 3840x2160p @23hz RGB 8bits DV (TV-LED)? If that is what it expect to see then I can try and use some calibration material to improve it.
The movie was a DV movie and although the output signal was 60hz, it still stated 23.97 fps?!

Potentially yes - it's a DV movie and the output is in TV Led DV and theoretically that should be the best way to do it (or LLDV - for all intents and purposes, and glossing over tedious detail, there's not really any difference).

However, that relies on the display being good at Dolby Vision and with the best will in the world, the very best HDR picture a projector can produce is SDR. In other words, something has to tone map the HDR image down to the level a projector is capable of and to be honest these boxes are quite good at it, so SDR may be the way to go. All that happens in a projector when you feed it an HDR signal is that it's internally tone mapped down into the realms of SDR because the projector can only muster maybe 100 or so nits and that's the limit of SDR and nowhere near the potential of HDR.

Experimentation and research is the key here and always trust what you see - if it looks good to you, it is good. If another setting looks better to you, it is better, despite what know-it-alls like me say

As for the frame rate - it sounds like you may be getting UI framerate mixed up with content frame rate - when you play a movie, hit the info button and that will tell you the framerate of the file and also what the box is outputting. The projector will also tell you but it may report 24Hz for both 23.976 and 24Hz which is a common idiosyncrasy of a lot of displays for reasons unknown.

Thanks again mate, really appreciate it.
This is all new to me, but willing to learn how to get the best from my system. I have absolutely no idea on how to load a custom EDID (or even what one is ) . So I'll set myself some time aside to do some research. Any pointers in the meantime would be awesome. Thanks again.

Did you mean to post that here? 1619DR forum?

Can move it if you want.

Oh weird. Don't know how this happened
Yes, please Mark

Which thread?

Hi Mark, I spent some time playing about trying different settings last night and the biggest difference I saw was when using LLDV. When using TV LED DV the image seemed flat and not particularly that great, but when using LLDV the image had depth, the colours seemed more vibrant and overall a lot nicer experience. I'm happy with that .
I was reluctant to try that setting as after a quick Google it seems that people generally regard it as inferior.
To my untrained eye, that isn't the case so I'm sticking with it.
Thanks again for your help.
Gaz

No, LLDV is not inferior!

There were some tests a couple of years ago by someone on Youtube that for a while everyone caused a stir, but it was monumentally flawed and produced skewed results.

On the face of it, LLDV just processes the DV metadata in the box and TV Led in the TV, however, in these boxes, TV Led is also processed in the box for convenience because the enhancement layer is not used. There are some bugs with LLDV and TV Led which Dolby have been aware of for years and seemingly just can't be arsed fixing, but in all honestly, because of the way they manifest, you'd honestly never see them in real content.

So yeah, I'd stick with LLDV.
