Recommended Settings and other useful stuff for AML S928X Players (HT PDF Complete Rewrite Aug 26)

I had been using a 77 inch OLED from about 15ft away in the theater. Great picture, but didn't have 18k for 97 inch oled so jumped to a projector for $2999 during kickstatar. Right now it's a just a learning curve since I have never had a projector.

 

While we're on the subject of video processors - this is interesting - don't know how many of you have seen this, but it's causing a stir on AVS:

It's being developed independently but will be released by HDFury. Price between $400 and $500 I believe.

 

I am struggling on how to resolve a somewhat minor, but annoying issue. Let's say you setup your movies folder structure and you include an unneeded subfolder. For instance, you setup \\movies\not needed folder\dramas. You add the source to Zidoo, it scans and all is good. Then you realize you can simplify things so you remove the folder and now it is \\movies\dramas. You update the source, but now (for some, I think it's not for all movies) it shows the movie twice. I don't mean two separate movies, I mean for that movie, it shows both files locations, i.e. A and B.

I have completely removed the source and readded it. That seemed to mitigate the issue, but not completely resolve it. No idea what to do now.

 

I just tried exactly what you said:

Original path for a scanned source was:

..\Movies\Not Needed Folder\Dramas\



I then deleted the middle Not Needed Folder, leaving ..\Movies\Dramas and as expected the source became invalid because the path to it no longer exists.



So this invalid source then needs removing and the new one adding back and rescanning.



So I'm not sure what you did.

 

There was only ever one source. I simply removed the folder that was not needed and then went on the Zidoo and updated the source. It then showed the new path and the old one.

 

If you change the path to the source files, the source will always become invalid because it simply no longer exists and no amount of rescanning will fix that - in fact, when a source is invalid you don't have the option to rescan.

The only way the source could remain valid when removing a folder is if you define the source as a parent folder underneath the folder you subsequently remove (in this case, "Movies")

In that case, the source remains valid since the parent folder remains but since the path beyond it has changed, the source is automatically rescanned because the files have changed location and the library returns exactly as it was - no A/B boxes (to be sure, I tested this).


The only possibility I can think of is that you are using host names instead of IP addresses in the source path which can create unexpected results because of the way host names are propagated on a network.

Auto is better.

You only need to use forced if you have a display that supports CMv4.0 but you are using a custom EDID that doesn't.

 

I have an LG G5 65-inch TV; when set to "Auto," I experience frame skips or stuttering with some movies.

 

The source does not become invalid with what I did. So originally is was \\movies\junk\dramas. The source is scanning \\movies. Then it becomes \\movies\dramas. Source is still valid as it is scanning \\movies. Drama #1 was in \\movies\junk\dramas now it is in \\movies\drama. I open the page for Drama #1 and it shows two movies; one for each path even though it only exists in the new path.

 

I assume you mean that the source is simply "movies" (not "dramas"), so that explains why it doesn't become invalid. The path to the lower folder hasn't changed.

Doesn't explain why you get two copies though - that shouldn't, and usually doesn't, happen.

Are you using hostnames? - A screenshot of the source page might be helpful

 

It is an NFS share using IP address. as in nfs://192.168.01.01/Movies

 

Ok, that's really odd then.

I just replicated exactly what you have - I created an NFS share called Movies on a NAS, and put a \junk\dramas folder in there with 10 movie files and added the share as the source.

So my source is:

nfs://192.168.0.136/Movies

My movies are in:

\\192.168.0.136\Movies\Junk\Dramas

Once scanned, I then moved the dramas folder down to the share root (Movies) and deleted the junk folder

So the source stays the same but the movies are now in:

\\192.168.0.136\Movies\Dramas

And as expected, the Zidoo recognised the change, rescanned immediately and automatically without any duplication.

So I don't know why yours is doing that - all I can think is that your NAS or whatever you're using to host the share is still advertising the old location as still being valid, which can happen - I've seen issues where a NAS reports a folder as still being there, even if you browse to it, but try and access it and it fails.

So unless your database is corrupted in some odd way, this doesn't seem to be a Zidoo issue.


The only way I can duplicate what you're seeing is to have both a \\Movies\Junk\Dramas folder AND a \\Movies\Dramas folder, both with identical content. Then I get the A/B box thing as expected.

 

Hum. I will keep an eye on it. Aspect ratio control is a must for me so I don't if this unit will have such a feature.

Not a clue about dates and I believe they're aiming at $400 but we'll have to wait and see. Worth getting on the waiting list...

 

I own a Zidoo Z30 Pro. The Zidoo is connected to the HDMI 2 port of a Samsung HW990F soundbar via HDMI cable. The soundbar is connected via its eARC port to the eARC port of a TCL 75C855 TV. Regarding the recommended settings for the Zidoo Z30 Pro:
Audio/Source Output: HDMI
Audio/HDMI Setting/Decode: Auto
Audio/HDMI Setting/Volume passthrough mode: On
Audio/Pass-through compatible mode: On
When I use these settings, I experience audio lag; changing the Decode setting to RAW resolves the issue. However, I recall using "Auto" for years without any problems. I believe the audio lag started occurring after I purchased the soundbar.
If I set Decode to RAW, is it necessary to keep "Pass-through compatible mode" enabled, given that it will be sending a RAW signal anyway? I ask this because I perceive a very slight, barely noticeable lag when "Pass-through" is enabled—though it is possible I am just imagining it.

 

Whether you use RAW or Auto the signal is exactly the same if the EDID supports the codec. RAW just forces all codecs through as bitstreams regardless of whether the EDID supports them or not.

Passthrough compatible mode fixes issues in badly encoded TrueHD files and shouldn't introduce delay.
