I've ripped several dozen 4k UHD discs to MKV. Most of them play perfectly on my Z9X Pro. I haven't tried them all, but so far I have two specific titles that are consistently unwatchable. They stutter mercilessly, both video and audio immediately. I get no errors in MakeMKV. I have re-ripped them (BU40N drive). Same issue. The discs themselves work fine in a disc player. Two examples: The Last Starfighter & The Thing (both Universal) They both have DTS tracks, so I thought maybe that was an issue. But I have other DTS titles that play just fine (i.e. Gladiator). I did a search about these discs and couldn't find anything related, so not many other people are having this issue it seems. Any thoughts on this? I've read that some discs don't play well with some drives, but would I still get an error-free rip if that were the case here?
If MakeMkv is able to rip and complete it, then that is not the issue with your playback... How are your files accessed by the Z9x Pro? NAS or attached USB connected hard drives?
The files are on a NAS. But the files are either always good or always bad, so to me that wouldn't point to storage/network issues. Unless I'm missing something.
I would do a comparison of the movies that work and those that don't by hitting the info button on the Zidoo as they are playing just to see if by chance there is a big difference in the bit rates that each file is using. I am thinking you may have a limitation in your local network data throughput... Then put the problematic files on a USB connected HDD or USB stick and attach it to the Zidoo that way and compare... If the prior problematic files play just fine, you have a local network issue.. Dont forget to reboot your router and NAS... I have seem instances where either of those.. but especially the NAS, can cause playback issues if they just haven't been restarted in a very long time..
I forgot to close the loop on this. Cause was a network cabling issue (from office to the upstairs theater) resulting in a 100 Mbps NAS connection to the Zidoo rather than 1 Gbps. Has probably been a problem for years but only brought to light by trying to stream 4k UHD locally. Only high bit-rate rips (85+ Mbps) were affected. So @Deano86 you were on the right track. Thanks for your help.
