PCM & DSD 16x Upsampling??

I am curious about how the T10 handles upsampling. I understand that DDCs are generally used to improve sound quality through jitter reduction and upsampling—how does the T10 perform upsampling? Can I assume that DDC functionality is built directly into the T10?

 

The upsampling in the T10 is for PCM only, not DSD. One of the reasons for the upgraded octacore and extra RAM of the T10 was to enable this live upsampling for any audio stream be it local files or from streaming services. It is not really a DDC function, most DDCs do not perform any change in sample rate, usually just extra galvanic isolation and reclocking, with ability to convert to different digital connection types.

 

Hi, by DDC, do you mean Digital-to-Digital Converters? They convert one digital signal into another, for example, I2S to optical Toslink, and so on.
Some types of DACs generally perform oversampling/upsampling, such as delta-sigma DACs (typically those based on ESS or AKM chips), while others, such as many R2R DACs, offer it as an optional feature.

The benefit of in the box upssampling/oversampling is to replicate what many audio nerds use software to do then run that into a DAC with NOS mode turned on,. I'm still undecided on which I prefer, but it's interesting to have the option.

 

i was playing arround last weekend, i have also a DAC i can switch to NOS (R30) and then i was switchign 16x on and off and comparing.

 

I own an Accuphase D/A converter. It converts DSD input to analog using the MDSD method, while PCM input is processed via the MDS++ method. These two methods produce different sonic characteristics, and I personally prefer the sound of the MDSD method used for DSD. Since the DAC's architecture allows the sound to be tailored to my preference through DSD input, I would really like to see PCM-to-DSD upsampling implemented. LUMIN has already implemented this feature, so I hope Eversolo will do the same; if PCM-to-DSD upsampling is added, I will definitely buy the T10.

 

FiiO Also has this feature on various DAPs (M17, M27) and desktop All-in-Ones (R7, R9) ... They call it "All-to-DSD" ... Would absolutely stellar on T10 @Zidoo Support-Kim

 

Is this something that can be implemented in software, meaning it doesn’t require dedicated hardware/FPGA?
Having options is never a bad thing. But honestly, the 16× oversampling is something I’ve played around with, but I ultimately decided not to use it — neither on the Z10 8 (DS) nor on the Gustard R30 (R2R). I’m sure there are use cases where it may bring some value, though. The Gustard R30 is using different units for DSD, would be interesting to compare same music using different decoding methods on same device.

 

Roon implements PCM-to-DSD upsampling using only the CPU. I would like to see Eversolo implement this as well.
