Just received my new DMP-A10. Got it hooked in…set up. Sound is very flat, bit hard and very 2 dimensional compared to the DMPA8 it replaced (it went to my neighbor) What are you finding are the break in times for it? Related Equipment: Emotiva XPA-1L monoblocks, switched in Class A. Wireworld Eclipse XLR interconnects. Egglestonworks Andra Series 1 speakers. Awaiting a pair of Buckeyes Audio Purifi 1ET9040BA Eigehtakt Gen 2 monoblock amps.
I received and installed a brand new DMP-A10 yesterday. To my ears, it sounds fabulous straight out of the box, and not flat at all. Mine is fed over XLR into a Zähl H1 headphone amplifier.
When I say flat, I mean soundstage depth was noticeably compressed compared to the A8 I just pulled out. After about 4 hours it started to open up a bit and the hardness started to lessen. Texturally it's noticeably better than the A8. I'm letting it run in today.
Just a quick question... are the clocks in the devices oven-controlled, or just "ordinary"? Although hours for them to get into stable operating regime sounds utterly weird to me, it could still be a reason. I'm talking about clocks, because there is no other component that can be (burn in is not a thing... not nowadays...) temperature (if there is one thing that changes, in a working electronic device, is the temperatiure) dependent. I just wanted to bring my 2c knowledge, that transistors and / or operational amp chips are not the same thing as tubes (valves for the UK-ers), therefore the (in)famous burn-in time is now a fairy tale... A tube, OTOH, changes its signature (electronic response, that in an amplifier reflects itself into sound-character...) after time of operation. Silicon (silica), does not.
20-30 hours is nothing. You need to wait at least 200-300 for it to sound as it is meant to. P.S. @Purité Audio Keith, I sense a lack of emoticons here... like a true ROTFLOL one.
TBH we are more likely helping them. Unfortunately, they are left alone when it comes to accept, or not, such help.
U MNIE JEST Poezja.
@Tedy This is an English forum, please post in English. If you just set your browser to translate non-Polish sites to Polish, then clean that setting up. It may look to you here we talk Polish, but hey, not yet... Thank you / Dziękuję
Mine's been running continuously for 8 days. Agree initially it is a bit harsh, but improving considerably the last few days. I'm hoping the supposedly superior components continue the trend for a while. I keep it at full volume, not coming through the stereo since relatives have been here over Christmas.
Burn-in for solid-state is pure nonsense. If there is something transistors and operational amplifiers are good at, it is stability from beginning-to-end... a thing that necessity of burn-in, definitely doesn't have any role, or place within... Tubes, somehow do. As do all those huge, 300, or 600uF capacitors of long gone time... but modern solid state, definitely, does not. Such a mith deserves to be debunked, so many would benefit; both in terms of time-waste, and expectations...
Everything built on Silicon has an optimal operating temperature point. Cold hardware can certainly perform worse. But it should reach its operating point after a few minutes. That's why running nonstop for seven days is nonsense. I always take a cooling break every few hours. Furthermore, overheating Silicon-based systems ages these components. So-called "burn-in" refers to intermittent operation for a week or two, and then the devices "open up."
NUTUL, TEDY, PUTRID AUDIO: If you cannot hear differences that others report, then simply say you cannot or STFU because you are not adding any value by telling others that what they hear is nonsense. There are similar posts telling you to STFU. You are ruining this forum.
