I own UHD3000 and having problems with Netflix series integrated subtitles. The thing is that every now and then , subtitle lines are not shown. Like for example every minute or two , there are lines that are not shown , then it is fine and then again, no lines. External subtitles works fine. Any idea how to fix this ?
It is MP4 format, the same happens now on every Netflix series , year ago it was all fine. I didn't change any settings, only upgraded HT to version 5.
Extracting subs from MP4’s is a pain and I prefer and convert all MP4’s to MKV using mkvtoolnix. It’s easy then to mark which sub is the default and indeed deleting all the rest that you don’t want. Also I have found in my experience mkv’s navigate better than MP4’s . If you use the header editor in mkvtoolnix you don’t have to remux, just tick a few boxes and hit Save.
There is no hard and fast rule in the order of subtitles so that might be the problem. I’ve had two consecutive episodes of Interview with the Vampire where the first sub was a forced (foreign language only) track and in the following ep it was the 3rd. Zidoo didn’t pick that up and went to the first sub. This was my routine check of files prior to my Friday night movie night with my friends I’ve standardised on MKV as IMO you have easier control of any editing you might need. I’ve found seeking back and forth is more consistent than mp4.
As to why this worked a year ago and not now, I haven't a clue. The HT version shouldn't make a difference because subs are handled by the player apk which certainly hasn't changed in the last year on the UHD3000. That said, mp4 is nearly the worst wrapper to use, probably second only to avi - its subtitle support is woefully lacking and a lot of media players choke on multiple subs within MP4. As @Netmask says, convert to mkv (which takes seconds and is completely lossless) or, better yet, procure the files in mkv.
Finally I remuxed MP4 file to MKV with MKVToolnix, but afterwards Zidoo is not showing any subtitle now, only one specific english subtitle. Video file info on Zidoo is showing that text files for subtitles are there, but under Subtitle menu there are no any , except this specific one in english. Of course I didn't exclude subtitles in MKVtoolnix neither I changed there anything, just started remux. Any clue what am I doing wrong ?
In mkvtoolnix prior to remuxing did you mark each subtitle to “copy” and mark the sub you want as the Default” ? It’s possible the timed text subs on the MP4 didn’t have those flags set.
I am not changing anything, all title tracks are enabled. Here are mediafile exports. Only Zidoo not see this subtitles after remux, VLC on computer see them fine. Just one english subtitle is available only, after remux.
The MediaInfo report shows every subtitle in the MKV version has been marked ‘Default’ ! Not surprised the Zidoo is confused. Only one sub title shouid be marked default. By contrast the mp4 MediaInfo report shows only the English sub title as default. I recommend that apart from marking only the sub you actually want as the default that you remove all other non English subs from the MKV file if you don’t need any other language. Generally there are 3 subs per major language , a full text of dialog only, a forced text with only foreign parts included and a SDH file that cantains the full dialog text and notations on fx like ‘car door’ opens or ‘echoing footsteps’ etc
I removed all other language subtitles and left the one I need and now after remux Zidoo doesn't see any subtitle. Mediainfo uploaded
Doesnt make any sense - the next step would be to extract the sub as a standalone SRT and post that file Code: Text ID : 4 Format : UTF-8 Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8 Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text Duration : 45 min 17 s Bit rate : 73 b/s Frame rate : 0.303 FPS Count of elements : 824 Stream size : 24.5 KiB (0%) Title : BTM Language : Croatian Default : Yes Forced : No Menu 00:09:00.000 : en:Chapter 1 00:18:00.000 : en:Chapter 2 00:27:00.000 : en:Chapter 3
Change the suffix from txt to SRT Can’t guarantee the timing or accuracy. a standalone SRT, rename to match your video file.
Standalone SRT is working fine and doesn't have original problem. I thought to fix original problem somehow as like i said Netflix series with these subtitles worked fine last year and now somehow there is a problem with subtitles, no matter which one I select. On Stranger Things, Wednesday, Formula 1 drive to survive, all now having issues with subtitles that I described in original post. Thank you for trying to figure it out !
