Is it possible to import existing m3u playlists or other formats into the DMP-A6?
    Thanks for help.

According my test they do work when clicked. The ICON is not recognized as a supported file.
But they are not imported into the library.

    In my experience, no.

I use standard m3u playlists on other players and the A6 can neither scan them into the library nor play them directly.

I've sent sample M3Us to the devs several times.

Sorry, can't find anything in the manual regarding import + playlist + m3u etc

That would be a shame. My playlists have evolved over the years. Of course I would also like to use it with the ingenious DMP-A6.

I am pretty sure I saw playlists mentioned somewhere: PLS or M3U?
Never use any but recall to have modified one as a tryout.
Maybe I am confused with the MP implementation on Zidoo?

Mine too - I started ripping CDs decades ago when I first bought an Imerge sound server (anyone remember them!) and to date have a collection of over 120,000 tracks, just less than 10,000 albums and innumerable playlists.

Unfortunately the A6 database just can't cope with that many albums so I use a Linn DS (for serious listening) and Squeezebox (for whole house/garden audio) and the A6 is used for a small but developing library of SACD rips.

They certainly can't be scanned into the library - the devs told me they have to be played from "Files" but I've yet to get them working.

    Not tried PLS though.

Only recall trying playing a playlist by clicking on it (i think it was M3U). Never tried for library integration. But agreed should be a standard feature for both PLS and M3U.

Be interested to see an example of an m3u that works - as far as I know mine are nothing out of the ordinary.

Just tried an album with a M3U included. The icon is not recognized but clicking on it the M3U is played.
Modifying it the updates do work too. Just tried deleting some entries.

The same test I made before and only can repeat this one works for me.
No idea how these playlist must actually look like.
It is a downloaded album not one made by me. In my 'to listen section'.

Did another test creating one myself using XRECODE3 and that one also works flawless.
So for me confirmed M3U works when played but are not imported into the library.
OK tested only with FLAC albums. Sorry to contradict you Mark that seldom happens. :D

No, I'm very happy to be proved wrong - I think my playlists include an absolute path rather than relative because they are in a separate directory from the music - I'll have to check later...

Full path and Android aren't exactly natural friends'. Also a problem when moving around albums which I occasionally also do.
Strongly related to the request of some asking for multi-source playlists. So I am pretty convinced full path is for now not supported.

    Right - that makes sense.

    Mine are like this:

So I just made up a quick relative path one and lo & behold that works!
Fortunately, the Playlist and Music directories are in the same share.

So, I take it back - m3u playlists do work as long as they use relative paths.

Thank you very much for getting me to look at this closer :);)

The same applies to Zidoo Music Player.

What's the current status of playlists using the A-6? I created one on the iPad app, and I did a rescan, and the playlist was wiped.
No way to more permanently save a playlist somehow?

Using ‘update’ instead of ‘rescan’ will keep your playlists.

Playlists is one of the few things still needing some essential player improvements.

If you know, can you please explain the functional differences between rescan and update as they relate to files? I assumed that updates were for firmware and apps, and scanning was for adding files?

I came from a squeezebox environment, and I want to learn more about the A-6 system.

When it comes to the library, update refers to library update: it should look for changed / added / removed files only, and update its internal database accordingly; while rescan should clear the database entirely, and then rebuild it ex-novo. This may explain also the removal of any existing playlist, as they could have become inconsistent (although I - had it been me who wrote the software - would have kept them, and on occasion asked the user if a non existing item in them should be removed).
