Jellyfin AndroidTV Client Thread

The themes are somewhat limited, the AndroidTv client fundamentally uses java/kotlin and not the css web stuff the other clients use. So "themes" only means changing some colors here and there. Than the client never triggered a update on theme change, will be fixed in the next version and need to check what the themes actually do. (Its not a high priority issue atm)

There should be a "continue watching" and "NextUp" section at home?

I was trying to watch Casino Royale which has DTS audio and Jellyfin transcoded it. Because of the transcoding, it wouldn't allow me to rewind, fast forward, or select any chapters.

When I went to watch it in HT 4.0, it played as stereo.

My setup is Sonos Arc and LG C1.

My only experience with transcoding has been Plex on other devices but I was always able to still fast forward. Why can't I on the Z9X Jellyfin client?

Because the internal zidoo player we rely on, cant handle progressive or HLS streams correctly, transcoding happens "on the fly" so the data/stream is being updated while you play.
This needs special care by the player and especially how you seek in those streams.
My guess is that atm the internal player tries to get the position/length information and this fails for transcodes, than just trys to open the file/stream but since it has invalid information does show a fixed/broken seekbar.

Atm communication with the Zidoo dev that helps me on features/bugs is frustrating, since after a good initial push two months ago, now i just get a answer every now and than, but there is also a good chunk of miscommunication.
I also have to present only one issue at a time, since that's what seems to work at least somewhat reasonable.
So atm i wait to get NFS mounts fully fixed... since 3 weeks, which is a rather trivial change.
At this point its clear to me that Zidoo see's my Jellyfin Fork as a "neat" pet project, but i get only minimal resources from there part.

So honestly i have no clue if this can be fully resolved, my hope was that this should also work for the Plex client, but does the Plex client even support transcoding?

I will still try to find some way, since this ofc also annoys the heck out of my own viewing experience.

You can enable "have DTS decoder" and this should mimic what HT4 does with stereo. You have to check if this is 5.1 downmixed stereo or just the actual left/right channels.

    Well, that's discouraging :(
I do understand, though. It's not Zidoo proprietary software, so I imagine assisting you would be very low on their priority list (especially when it's functioning better than their own HT4 ;)).
That said, I'm a happy chappie because even though it's still in Beta, its functionality is 99% perfect for my needs/wants.
I've said it before & I'll say it again: I appreciate your efforts andy22 :)

Andy, thank you. I bought a ZX9 last week purely because I can integrate it with my existing Jellyfin library. I have 4 friends who are now doing the same.

I wish you success with your interactions with the devs. They should be praising you, as you are directly helping sell devices!

I don't want any praise, in all honesty i just want to be able to release the final beta and a first actual release version. Than just do some Ui stuff for the main client if i have time.

At this point its just frustrating, i have gotten no feedback again in two weeks. That's while i was in the middle of a conversation with the dev, that should have resolved the NFS issues.
So its like talking to someone and in the middle of a productive conversation, the person runs off and never gets back to you.
So now i have to once again use some other channels to get the dev. back to talking to me...

How frustrating. I also bought 2 additional Z9Xs purely because of the Jellyfin integration.

Also, sorry to be a pain but would you be able to release a version without (or selectable) the direct play pop up. Thanks for everything.

Atm i still work on some Ui Home changes, so you will be able to scale each section individually and pick what poster/thumb display you like. I also add/fix some of the sorting options, so finally "Last Played" + watched filtering will work in grid views.

So i still have lots of stuff that's more general and not strictly Zidoo related, yet after 5 weeks and like 10 messages i still cant get a trivial NFS fix in. So i either have to keep the "legacy option" and move on or write my own mount code, which is just stupid.
After this, seekable transcodes is the last remaining "big" issue, which at this point i have little hope will get fixed, unless they do this also for the Plex client. This issue is actually not a trivial fix like the NFS one, so the Zidoo dev has to actually spend time on it to get this working.

There is still hope, given that the Plex client should be able to play + seek transcodes, but have not yet tested if the current version can or can't actually play transcodes and if seeking works.

Will put it on top of my list, so i don't forget it again (fingers crossed)

So sorry to hear that the devs have been ghosting you. Your Jellyfin client fork is MUCH better than HT4 or the Plex beta client that Zidoo is building, IMO. I was excited to hear they were working on Plex compatibility, but disappointed to find out it was basically hacking Plex server connectivity into HT4. Plex connectivity via that method will always be fragile, at the mercy of Plex server changes breaking their client and trailing the official Plex clients in terms of features, GUI, etc. Which is why I'm loving your Jellyfin fork as it's based on the official Jellyfin AndroidTV client. I stood up a Jellyfin server just for my Zidoo, based on your client.

Hopefully Markswift2003 or Mirror can help get those communication lines open again.

Me lovin' the Jellyfin client too, it's my daily client right now. No need to use ZDMC or my Kodi hack.

Thank you so very much @andy22

  13. @andy22, Thank you for the good work!
Centralized media server and multiple clients on different platforms are very important these days. I hope Zidoo team take it seriously. Besides standalone jellyfin client app, they can include a jellyfin plugin into HT4 if they want.

How can we bring this to Zidoo's attention? This app is selling devices, making them money. They should be supporting the dev better.

General question. Is there a way to supress TV seasons being displayed that have no episodes?

You mean in a TV series details view?
I guess the idea is to see all available seasons, even if you have no episodes, since that's some kind of meta information for the show.

Yes. HT4 does not display a TV series folder that has no episodes. As I monitor a number of shows using Sonar it's distracting seeing shows that are being monitored but not being aired.

Has this been complied for the RT1295/RT1296 soc at this point?

Will enable lower Android support on next beta, but since i only have a Z9X cant really test if it works on the older devices.

thank you for the quick response, i attempted install on z9s today and it just said package error or something similar.I tried downloading again and did the same thing. This would be great to support those chipsets running android 6 and android 7 respectively. Mcbluna seems to have knowledge of making apks backwards compatible as well. Thanks for the all the work and advancement on jellyfin.
