Those people who have dune players and have been waiting (....and waiting and waiting.... for updates whilst bemoaning the zidoo update schedule) should try the latest r24 alpha

Highlights: finally editing of "my collection", reading of nfo files to populate the movie and tv walls, beginnings of a sync process to sync data between networked players.(Nowhere near/close to the Zidoo back up system) This functionality has literally taken years and years. Still the same collection presentation format ie "clunky" same as the general os but getting there.

There are the usual "promises" of more updates, so another few years! Strangely enough there are is a lack of agitation on the Dune threads as regards their update schedule. I went on the Russian forums, translated and even on this forum there is not the outrage as expressed on the Zidoo forums as to the sparseness of updates. Possibly "Lost in Translation"

Still all these "improvements to the AML boxes are welcome

I am completely satisfied with my Zidoo Z 3000 pro and even bought a second one to replace my Zidoo z 1000 pro, especially because it has a separate HDMI output for audio. The R_volution models don't offer two HDMI outputs, except for the R_volution PLAYER PRO 8K TV, but its price is now much higher.

 

What’s the point of the separate HDMI audio output?

It’s only useful if you have an old AVR receiver that doesn’t support HDR or Dolby Vision. Otherwise, there’s no point – with Zidoo, there are even drawbacks, such as audio delay, which is even worse after pressing Pause->Play via this output.
When I used this output, I even experienced stuttering in video content, but that disappeared once I connected everything via the main HDMI port.

 

Key Benefits
1. Full picture quality without AVR limitations
If the receiver does not support a given video format (Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 4K120, 8K, etc.), Zidoo can send the video directly to the TV and the audio to the receiver. This is the main idea of the dual HDMI output.
2. Full sound without compression
HDMI Audio Only can transmit:
Dolby TrueHD Atmos
DTS:X
multichannel PCM
DSD
without the limitations of ARC/eARC.
3. Fewer HDMI problems
When the TV and receiver participate in the HDMI handshake at the same time, sometimes the following occur:
HDMI resyncs
picture flicker
incorrect HDR/DV recognition
EDID problems

fewer HDMI handshaking issues;
faster switching between modes;
less chance of black screens with Dolby Vision;
guarantee that the TV receives the original signal directly from Zidoo.
And besides, rest assured that I wouldn't be wasting my money, because apart from these two outputs, the main improvements over the Z 1000 pro are mostly the speed, the interface and somewhat new features.

 

I meant, what are the benefits for you?

Both your AVRs support HDR, so point 1 isn’t relevant to you.

Point 2. That’s not correct; there’s no compression via HDMI Main. ARC limitations can easily be bypassed if you connect a media player via the AVR. eARC has no limitations.

Point 3. This probably relates to specific Zidoo issues, or is just a guess. I haven’t experienced these problems.

 

Of course you are right in principle. But on point three I have sometimes had HDMI resyncs especially with DV signals and the movie at best continued with the Dolby vision inscription at the top right of the screen, which means there is a new synchronization, at worst a black screen appeared for a second or two, or even a restart of Zidoo was necessary. Movies with a bitrate above 80-100. That is why it is always better to have two separate outputs for video and audio. By the way, the advantage of the Z 1000 pro is that it has an HDMI input with which I can record, which is why I will keep it too.

Why did you send back the mini in favor of the 8k?

 

Small case, doesn't fit with other devices.

No, the playback and operation of the device were absolutely fine.

 

Another new firmware update was released; the last one was on 30 March 26.

There’s hardly anything that needs improving – certainly not for me – everything works fine.
