  1. It seems that changing the user interface to 2k disappears the stutters

This file is very sensitive to stuttering. The problem with these stutters is that they are random, and if you rewind, they don't repeat for some time. I couldn't "catch" the stutters for recording a SHORT debugging report. Then I remembered this series and the intro, which always stuttered (like the entire series). I'd like to shed some light on the origin of such files (DV P8). It's not like me, with no experience, finding some instructions, making a file, and posting it online. Nobody needs such files. A fairly small circle of people does this, and they've been doing it for years, some for decades. They don't make stupid mistakes. In particular, they work better with sound than licensing companies, restoring sound from old VHS tapes and the like.

Interesting. I have used 4K UI since day one. Oddly I found the 4k UI to be the most fluid! I have had stutters in the past but fixed with firmware updates. Currently my box is the most stable its been (on v1.2.42). No stutters using subs or bringing up the info overlay.

Online TV series such as these are generally delivered from the post house to the customer's specs and then re-encoded in house to fit the required encoding ladders of the provider - an SDR, HDR10 and DV version is generally produced so when you choose an SDR version or an HDR version or a DV version on say, Netflix, you actually streaming different files each time and each has a different encoding ladder. The DV deliverable is always Profile 5.

Profile 8s are produced by release groups by removing the RPU from the P5 deliverable, changing it (hopefully correctly) to Profile 8 and then stitching it back into the HDR10 encode. To me it seems pointless and some people are good at it and some not so much which is why my advice is to simply avoid them.

As I've said many times, I'm the same - I have both a Z9X 8K and a UHD 8000 and the Z9X 8K gets hammered, and it's only in the last few days that I've finally managed to replicate this stuttering with help from forum users. In the normal course of events I just don't get it.

So far I've seen it under two circumstances only:

    1. Running continuous full fat UHD BluRay remuxes for between 90 and 300 minutes with the UI set to 4K and AI processing set to Mid or High (Low doesn't do it) and the AI OSD switched on.

    2. Running @rockmeloman 's Profile 8 clip with the UI set to 4K and bringing up the info screen.

In both cases, if only one of the conditions isn't met, I do not see stuttering.

I'm experiencing stuttering on 2160p DV P7 files (after 1.5-2 hours of viewing). I only needed the DV P8 test file to create a short debug report, as stuttering on 2160p DV P7 is too unpredictable.

As higher profile as more probability of stutter... higher resources demand.

Yes I know, and that's the dilemma - what's your box doing that mine isn't? As I say, as soon as you're able, set the UI to 2K and let's see what that does.

I guess that's fair use - it's not representative of the whole works and is provided for research...

I always downloaded DV P5 mp4/mkv for web-dls, and I got stutters randomly even in 2K UI. Those are not replicable.
I almost always need to display an external subtitle, and that could be a variable.

I would always remux mp4 to mkv - mp4 isn't the best container.

I'm running the continuous remux test again today - so far 5 hours in, 3rd movie (first one HDR10, next two Profile 7) and no stutters so far. From experience, after 5 hours I don't expect any, but I'll keep it going for a while.

Thank you for your file! I can already see some severe stutters by just reopening and rewinding the file after a few minutes under 2K UI.
I believe it's useful to the devs because it might take them to find the cause of all such stutters. And I don't think it was much related to the resolution of UI, but the possibility of such random stutters might be lower under 2K UI.

I don't think any one thing causes it but each element takes resource and it's a combination with the 4K UI seemingly tipping it over the edge.

So far I am unable to stimulate any stutter with the 2K UI using the same methods I can reliably reproduce it with a 4K UI.

Yes, and I prefer mkv as well.
All I can say is that in my experience, I got stutters from UHD iso and mkv as well, and sometimes they were so bad that restarting the playing won't work. I have to do a cold restart to eliminate them. I did not report these behaviors because I simply cannot replicate them. But I would be happy to help the devs to solve such problems completely.
I'm OK with some files not played properly with the device, as long as playing these faulty files would not continue to affect the device performance afterwards.
It's still my favorite player to date!

Maybe I can send my debug log if it would be of any help? But I don't know how:(

The debugger is in Settings/Other but you need to be able to start the debugger, demonstrate the problem and then turn off the debugger and send the log. If the problem isn't replicable then this is problematic!

I've already sent a debug log with the stuttering as has @rockmeloman . I think at this stage it's best not to muddy the waters and only provide a log if requested by Zidoo themselves.

Great! Maybe the devs are already on to something, and this box is only a few steps from being perfect.
Again, thank you so much for these time-consuming tests!
