I need the process and the stock firmware file for doing a hard reset of my device please. Came home and it would not power on. I am assuming there is a stock firmware that can be reloaded but I don't see it in the downloads section of the website.

Nope. You are out of luck. Zidoo do not make the full firmware available for download and thus you can not restore it.

You should probably contact the retailer and have the device replaced.

I am not home right now, but it used to be in settings/other ( full reset/but you probably get the same firmware back as you have now)

What about a hardware button "R" - Restore?
May be it will work for you...

Odd behaviour, but seems fine again. I had done several full reboots from the power switch at the back…nothing, just a red light on the front. I unplugged it for a few minutes then powered on…red light. Finally, for lack of other options, I held the reset button while powering on and got “Up…” on the front screen but still not booting, nothing on the TV.
After a couple of minutes, it booted up and was back to normal. All my apps, all my settings there. So…no idea what that reset button did, but it’s back! ‍♂️

The reset button forces the boot loader and in theory is used to reflash the firmware from a USB stick with a full firmware image. But as @peteru states, these images are not publicly available.

I guess something went wrong in the boot sequence and the reset button forced it and it failed over to the internal image (I believe there's a backup) when it couldn't find anything on a USB stick.

ran into something similar a while back with my z9x 8k, sort of got stuck, i left it unplugged for a bit, then let it keep booting over and over...
finally it sorted itself out, and hasn't acted up since..

So just happened again. We had a power outage, just a flicker but still everything shut down. Device is plugged into a surge protector so should not have suffered a surge. Tried to reboot and same thing…just a solid red light. Hard reboot, same thing.
No panic this time. I just turned power off at the back, held the reset button, turned box back on, held for 10 seconds. “UP_ _” came up on the screen. This time I noticed the red light was still on as well. Waited about 3-4 minutes, nothing changed. Pressed the power button on the remote, red light went out, screen changed to “boot” and all is back. Still on v1.2.42_G

Follow up question Mark…any particular reason that Zidoo does not release a stock recovery firmware for these devices? The previous gen Zidoo devices have them. I get these are Amlogic, so different hardware, but seems odd.

I was told it's because security on the AML boxes is much less stringent than Realtek and it's a way to protect their IPR.

Before Zidoo secured it, Zappiti stole their BD engine code from the 1295 boxes and used it in their boxes:

There are functions in the AML boxes to do with Dolby Vision that both Dune and R_Zappitilution get wrong so I guess Zidoo are protecting their interests since they were burned once.

Well, this issue that has started for me seems to be one that can be sorted, although it’s concerning for the long term viability of the box. Zidoo has obviously built in some sort of recovery process into the firmware related to that reset button. If I have to do this once a month it will be annoying but manageable. Haha.
