G version diff for Z9X 8K/Z30 PRO/Z3000 PRO/UHD8000(update to v1.1.80_G)

Some of you should receive new devices in the next few days. The firmware of ZIDOO 8K series players will no longer be available for download. And each upgrade will be an online upgrade in the form of a differential package.

I believe that all the devices you received will receive the online upgrade of v1.1.38. For those who want to use Google Play, you can use the following differential package to manually upgrade to 1.1.38_G.
Update to v1.1.42

But please note that this will be an irreversible process. Once you upgrade to version G, you can only receive the differential package of version G online upgrade in the future. Unless we launch a full package of a normal version with a higher version number at a certain time point

I am not really happy with this. Even as a general state of mind I like any action to be reversible if possible.

The G-version e.g. may have side-effects to manually installed APP, s:
- Upgrading the version which may become incompatible with the player
- Checking registrations etc,
Not good if one can no way go back. Be very sure you actually want it before permantly installing it.

For myself I normally test each version but now it is almost a nogo.

 

I’m also of the same opinion, having recently has the dreaded Google Play Services Keeps stopping error when i recently installed the last z9x firmware. I had to install the non G version for this to stop

Mmm. Is there not a method, similar to current boxes, where you can install a recovery image and then step forward to either G or non G? I have always used G only because I have one paid for app that I like to get from the Play store (photo frame app). I think I may try and side load the app first.

 

@mirror A couple of questions. If to start with I decide to stick with non G version (1.1.38). What happens if in a few weeks there is an OTA ,to say v1.1.40, and I THEN decide I want to use the G version. Will a G diff be be made available for 1.1.38 - 1.1.40?

Also what happens in say a years time when there have been several OTA releases and then you want to move to G?

optional. You may move to G-Version as a choice. Next ALL updates will be made on G-version and you can't go back to an old release. The updates are made differential.
The Android developers trick could still have worked? But Zidoo is not providing full installation images anymore I think they do this on purpose.

Doesn't really answer my question. The above diffs allow you to move to G if you are on firmware 1.1.38. Then subsequent updates will be OTA and will be G or non G depending on that decision.

My question is that if you got an OTA diff update to, say, 1.1.40 will there be a d/l diff package in case at THAT POINT you decide to go to G. So it would be:

1.1.40 to 1.1.40_G

Hopefully this would be the case as someone who buys one of these in 12 months time would probably not receive a box pre loaded with 1.1.38.

 

A corresponding G version for each version will always be released and updated in this post

Please correct if being wrong:
- It allows to postphone the move to the G.version to any future FW version
- Reverting to a non G-version is never possible once it is installed
- Reverting to a previous FW version is never possible regardless which version or level is used.

 

No need for version G to install an APK, so YES to SmartTube!

 

Personally I would do without the G version and even more so now!

 

I could be wrong, but here is what I think I understood :

- The player will be able to accommodate two types of firmware, a normal version (FW), and a "G" version. The transition from one to the other, can only be done under two conditions :
1/ By manually installing a complete version of the firmware.
2/ That this complete package has a more recent version number than the one installed on the player.

The player is only supplied with a FW firmware installed, Zidoo therefore provides the equivalent "G" version here, so the user can choose with which type of firmware he wants to use his player.
Once this choice is made, it is the player, via OTA only, which will offer the evolutions (updates of the version number) of the firmware, and which will not be downgradable.

But so that the user is not permanently "locked" in the initial choice of firmware type (FW vs G), from time to time - we can assume that it will only be at the time of major developments - Zidoo will offer here the complete package of a new major version, for each type of firmware, in order to be able to change it manually if desired.

In summary, I think that to avoid on-the-fly and too frequent changes of firmware, which could harm the stability, proper functioning and security of the player, between two major developments of the firmware, the user will be forced to stay with the core of the firmware chosen at the start, and to benefit from the "small" updates of it automatically via OTA, until a major update appears and gives him an opportunity to change the type of firmware if he wishes.

Personally, I find this procedure rather well thought out and relevant. Not everyone is "skilled" with firmware flash operations, the installation precautions to take, etc. and when people have many different types of files available (complete firmware, update files, all distributed under two different types of firmware kernel), these are risks of additional haphazard and clumsy manipulations, blocked players, etc. I understand that Zidoo wants to avoid this.

 

I think my only issue with all this regarding my forthcoming UHD8000 would be if I keep the pre-installed non-G fw I won't be able to bring into play updates via Playstore for UAPP (USB Audio Player Pro) or even install it, which I've more or less used 100% when playing music on my Z1000Pro.

This will therefore bring into play for me Music Player 8 or Stream via TIDAL. May I ask @Nice Monkey and/or @Markswift2003 for opinions please as to which method of playback for a. my music files and b. my TIDAL Catalogue would be best please?

 

Music 8 is a massive departure from MP7 so I think you'll want to ditch UAPP anyway.

It has native Tidal support but I can't test since I don't have an account.

 

Ah so you never need a G version then ? On my Eversolo, I installed APKPure and install apps that way, also I’ve used F-Droid Aurora Store.

 

Well no, I've had my Z9X and the SMARTUBE APK for 4 years and no 'G' version

 

Never used a G version, even for testing.
