On the T8 device screen or via Screen on the Eversolo mobile app Select Functions and Files Choose the SSD (e.g. SSD1 in my pic) you want to format. Click on the Format icon to proceed DO NOT choose "Storage" because it belongs to the internal storage of T8. Formatting it may cause system errors.
What is the formate mode (exFAT or others) for SSD by eversolo T8? If SSD is formatted externally then put into eversolo which mode should be used?
I formatted my SSD for the T8 externally on a PC in exFAT, then copied all the files to it, then installed it in the T8, no issues with that. I don't know if T8 definitely requires exFAT but worked for me.
Whatever your OS is capable of (Android can read almost everything, although some FS's are more suitable than others; Ext4 being the preferred one to the underlying Linux...). ExFAT, however, is the choice almost everybody goes for, due to the fact that can be read and written by all the guys in the field: Win / Linux / MacOS / iOS. Just one thing: since you can also format the drive on the Eversolo itself... if so you chose, do not select Ext4 if you have a Windows PC / Laptop - you won't be able to use it unless via a SMB share via your LAN, which is not the optimal thing to do, in terms of speed...
Installed two NVMe (SSD) drives - WD Black SN850x (8TB each). The system only detects one of them. It always formats the same one, and the second drive is simply not visible. How can I locate the second SSD if it hasn’t been formatted yet? Thank you.
I would check that the invisible drive is fully inserted into the socket end. Also try checking it in an external caddy with a USB link even on another device like a PC to rule out a dud drive.
I was ripping along on my CDs, almost done. When I clicked on CD Ripper to start the next one, suddenly the drive couldn't read any data on the CD. I tried several CDs, no luck. Powered off, restarted, no change. Tried to look for my SSD, suddenly gone. I've tried reinserting, moving to the other port, T-8 is still not finding it. I am so incredibly frustrated with this thing. Way too quirky. Any other suggestions? On the files menu, it shows a usb icon, listed as "unknown." If I click on it, it asks if I want to format. I backed out not wanting to format over all the ripped CDs on my SSD. Not sure if that was the SSD, especially since the icon next to it was of a USB, but wanted to play it safe. A couple other notes: 1. the SSD was warm, not hot, so it apparently is getting current, but the T-8 is just no longer recognizing it. 2. the T8 came with two light blue foam pads, with adhesive on both sides. Not sure what this is for, but the Ver2 SSD installation instruction specifically say to apply it to the top side of the SSD, which I have indeed done. Seems like this would add insulation that could overheat the SSD??
I also had this behaviour once on my T8. So I had two external USB devices in play along with the internal SSD, one for the optical drive, the other for a USB thumbdrive. After I did some messing about with thumbdrive including removal and reinsertion, I could no longer see the internal SSD under Files except as Unknown just as you found, also the CD drive wouldn't be recognised anymore. The solution for me was to totally power down the T8 and to make sure the two external USB drives were reconnected, incidentally I use a powered hub to connect these so as to minimise current draw on the T8. Then my internal SSD was visible again and the CD Ripper function again operated fine. The internal NVME drive is also on the device's USB bus and if it detects anything odd about say an external USB device then it can mess up the whole thing is what I conclude. Those pads are thermal pads to conduct heat away from the SSD, it doesn't act as insulation. Hope this helps.
I had completely powered it off - unplugged it after turning off the power switch in the back - 3 times. Still nothing. The CD drive wasn't connected at the time, and I did not have the T8 connected to anything - I had it sitting on an end table to make it easier to swap the CDs. The rest of my equipment was across the room. I've decided to let it sit for a while on standby, then with the power switch off, then unplugged. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will come around. So frustrating. I had about 15 CDs to go - out of approx 1200! It has been a four-day exercise ripping them and I was really ready to be done. I implied it a bit above, but if this thing were engineered properly, none of this should happen. A great app/interface just isn't enough to overlook all these issues. And since I am clearly not the only one having these issues, it is clearly the product itself. Either way, thank you very much for your effort to help. The people on this forum are wonderful.
Just to clarify, in my case I definately caused the issue by just removing a usb peripheral rather than correctly unmounting it first, the Files utility has an unmount option along with the well known format option, which I should have used. Your case is more puzzling and I hope you can solve it. I would be tempted to remove the SSD from the T8 and check it on a PC using an external caddy. If all looks OK, then reinstall and powerup. You could also swap the SSD to the second NVME socket assuming it is empty.
Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't find any option to unmount, but I also don't have anything on there to unmount, so I guess that point is moot. I have made a little progress. I had been ripping my CDs to an 8TB SSD, and as I said, was almost completely done with things went haywire. Since my last post, I tried a number of options to shutdown, cut power, etc, with no change. After all the changes above, I decided to proceed with adding a 4TB SSD to the T8. When I restarted and clicked on "files," it now showed an entry identified as "unknown." When I clicked on unknown, the only option was to format. As I was uncertain as to whether unknown was the 8TB with my CD files or the new 4TB, I decided to play it safe. I removed the 8TB and restarted. The unknown was still there so I went ahead and formatted it. Odd thing about that was that when I initially formatted the 8TB, I was given the option to assign a name to it. I didn't get that option with the 4TB. I would still like to give it a name, so if anyone can give me directions on how to do that, I would appreciate it. I then reinserted the 8TB. This time, it showed up! Unfortunately, it did so as "unknown" with the only option being to format it - erasing my CD files! That was obviously not an option. So I ordered a NCIe to usb adapter. I am hoping that I can insert the 8TB SSD with my CD Files on it and connect it to my MacBook Pro. My plan is to copy the CD files to my Mac hard drive and possibly also my cloud storage. Then I would remove the 8TB from the adapter, insert the 4TB SSD and copy the CD files to the 4TB SSD. At that point, I should have three viable backups for the files (Mac hard drive, cloud storage and on the 4TB SSD). My plan is to then reinsert the 8TB to the T8 and allow it to format the 8TB. I would then use the adapter to copy the CD files back onto the 8TB SSD. The CD files would be on both SSDs. Of course all of this assumes that the T8 continues to recognize the SSDs!!!! So at this point, I have a couple questions: 1. Will my plan above work? Is there a better way? 2. I have only once been able to get my Mac to connect to the T8 files. I was able to see and manipulate the CD files a bit. I have tried it a couple times since and the Mac won't connect. Is there some method to assure that I can connect to the T8 again? Also, I am wondering if I can connect my Mac to the T8 via its USB input and manipulate files that way? With all the other issues, I don't want to assume anything and create new problems. Thanks again for all the help!! Tim
provided the NVMe's are formatted to ExFat or NTFS (as they should already be...) , yes. You'll just need to rescan your entire library on the Eversolo.
About directly connecting to your T8 over USB, this is certainly possible when using a PC. I have no experience with a Mac though. The OTG setting should be set to the PC option rather than mass storage if you are doing this. It will be interesting to see what your Mac makes of the 8 Tb SSD in the caddy adapter, it should have been recognised by the T8 when reinserted, maybe there is some issue with it which will become apparent. Keep going !
Had to reformat both SSDs. T-8 recognizes both - for now. Now rescanning all my CDs. So much fun. I'm putting them on the 4TB. Every once in a while, I shut everything down, unplug the CD reader/ripper, plug in my Mac, connect it to the T-8/SMB (setting the USB to PC Transfer) and copy the music files from the 4TB over to the 8TB (Eversolo Music folder for both). When done, properly eject the SMB on the Mac. Shut everything down, disconnect the Mac, reconnect the ripper drive, start up and continue on. So far, it is working okay. I've had a couple snags, but shut down and restarted and problem went away. First issue was that one time when I restarted the T-8, it no longer recognized the 4TB. Restarted and it did. Second issue was when I tried to copy the music files from SMB off the 4TB to my Mac hard drive. Copied the first CD and then lost connection to the SMB. Refused to reconnect to it. I'm thinking that you may be onto something with the problem happening because the ripper disconnected from the USB while the T-8 was running. I have put the T-8 on my end table and the ripper on top of the T-8 cabinet. That makes it easier to swap out the CDs as I rip them. The ripper is light weight and tends to slide around a bit as I unload/load. Plus there is vibration while it is scanning the CD. I'm thinking that perhaps the movement and vibration worked the USB loose enough for it to have lost connection to the T-8 and that somehow messed up the 8TB SSD. Now I am using some BlueTack to firmly hold the ripper in place as well as on the USB to T-8 connection. I don't know if this is the issue/solution, but I'll try just about anything not to have to rip all these CDs a third time. Thanks again for your help!
Hello, my first post here, I don't know if my post is in the right forum... I had an A6, then A6ME first gen, and since half a year a T8. More than happy, never had any issues. Well, until yesterday. Yesterday, I inserted the second SSD drive, after formating the new drive, which I had to do 3 or 4 times, since it didn't succeed the first time. T8 erased all of the music from the first drive. Since that was a carefully selected library of music from the last 10 years, all I can say is that it really hurts. If there is a possibility of smthng like that happening, manufacturers shouldn`t make two drive slots available.
It depends on what really happened. The device does not erase your files, it just builds a new library; and if you happened to just select the new, empty drive to build the library upon, you end up with an empty one... I would suggest the following, first: 1. remove the new disc 2. rebuild the library This will get you a clean new library, possibly without playlists / favorites / etc. BUT it should show all of those carefully selected files you were talking about. HTH
