The Problem When using Zidoo, you’ll often come across an actor you enjoy or recognise. You know you’ve seen them in other movies, but you can’t quite remember which ones. Naturally, you want to explore more of their work—but doing so means leaving Zidoo and searching elsewhere. So what do you do? The opportunity What if you could view an actor’s full movie list directly from Zidoo, not only the titles already in your library, but also the movies they’ve appeared in that you don’t yet own? This instantly unlocks deeper discovery and adds valuable context to my collection. The Result With this feature in place: I can see all the movies an actor has appeared in. I can quickly tell whether I own all the movies from a favourite actor (for example, do I have every Simon Pegg movie?) I can see whether I have a complete movie series (for example, do I own all Mission: Impossible films starring Tom Cruise?) I can easily identify missing titles and add them to my collection. Method Minimise development effort by leveraging Zidoo’s existing framework and metadata Keep the solution simple and intuitive Focus on a lightweight implementation to increase the likelihood of delivery Concept Mockup The mockup below illustrates the idea. While viewing a Mission: Impossible movie, I noticed Simon Pegg in the cast. By selecting his name, I can instantly see what other movies he has appeared in, as usal. Selecting the actor takes me to the next screen as usual, however, this time I can see his other movies I do not have. When I select a missing movie (one that isn’t in my local library), it opens the standard movie detail screen, just as if it were a local title. However, all local-specific information is hidden. This allows me to view full details about the movie and decide whether it’s something I want to add to my collection. In summary This feature would deliver strong value with minimal development effort by leveraging existing frameworks, screens, and rule sets. Ongoing maintenance would also be low, as it reuses current interfaces while simply disabling or hiding local-only functionality where required. Most importantly, it would significantly enrich the content discovery experience for all users. This is my perspective, and I’d be keen to hear feedback from others. There may be additional ideas or improvements worth considering. Mark
