I SEE , Mogami good / excellent product good manufacture very consistent wonderful sound for the money, but now I do see your sales point. They are very inexpensive at retail so from having some experience and selling High End Audio equipment 35 years ago at dealers cost you may have a guy come in and purchase a half decent system. The cable giveaway that’s included cause next to nothing I own some of their cables. They’re very good but they are nowhere in the same league sonically speaking as quite a few others by the way, I don’t know if you agree, but that that particular cable that you’re giving away was mainly made and introduced to be used in the commercial or live musical event hook up in use of, but absolutely you can use them at home. I’ve did several times not saying they’re inferior but sometimes you get what you pay for. I would imagine as yourself but have a wonderful day no problems ;-)
Mogami are perfectly ‘fit for purpose’ cables, the correct cable for the job. Boutique cables are purely Snake Oil, you as you are an objectivist should know that. Keith
Whatever you say the cable you are using is perfectly good cable I use it on a pair of 18 inch subwoofers running Crown amps and an electronic crossover wonderful on the JBL 18 inch subs, but if you start using an upstairs on the mid horn and the Twitter, absolutely it’s tolerable, but the DH Labs copper with silver plated 14 gauge makes a tremendous Sonic difference, but you have your beliefs, and I have mine I should not know anything other than what I know, and what I know works, and my own system using solid State Mac amp for subs and single end tube for the top end so if you’re happy with that, I’m happy for you but let’s close this cause neither one of us are going to get anywhere but have a good day sorry about the TT as I am currently outside walking and talking can’t do much about that at the moment
Now that I've gone thru the learning curve to get my T8 situated and sounding great I just wanted to chime in. I purchased the T8 as my first stand alone streamer to move away from using my PC as my streaming source. I was motivated by a few factors, primarily isolation and the convenience of not having to go back to my PC each time I wanted to do any adjustment to the stream besides mute or adjust the volume. In this regard the T8 is a massive hit. I admit I also find the design, form factor and price all compelling as additional benefits. So far the app has been far better on my Android phone than my Lenovo tablet. Using the app via the tablet is very unstable and results in crashing often enough for me to exclusively use the phone instead. I'm using my mesh wi-fi to stream but had no issues with a thumb drive either. Also Big ups to all the positive folks with thoughtful responses. I did just receive a 1TB NVMe drive to load into the T8 and fill up with my collected music files, I'd be curious what anyone's experience with x-fering files to the NVMe storage? I managed to read thru this whole thread and I see a similar pattern to my one other post - all this talk of distortion and here I am using my Decware Rachael Amp - IYKYK - distortion can be your soft clipping friend!
@KB Pollo To be honest, I only read about sloooow transfer rate over SMB to the Eversolo... you have a 1TB NVMe drive, and supposedly are going to fill it up. I would suggest you connect it to your laptop, transfer the files (waaaaay faster) and then putting it back in the Eversolo, and rescan the library (maybe rebuild could be necessary). This at least when you need / want to make considerable file updates / additions / deletions. If it is a matter of 2 / 3 you can still be fine over SMB. Few albums may already result in frustrating experience - moreover in your situation, where you are on a mesh network, and I believe this could degrade your experience even more. Don't expect sound quality degradation from using local files instead of streaming services. You could, OTOH, experience some improvement though. Distortion should not be present (at listenable levels, that is...), unless you somehow manage to introduce it tackling with the EQ. HTH Cheers, Al.
Nutul - thanks for the response. Admittedly I read at least one review that seemed frustrated with file xfer via wi-fi. I was anticipating using a portable SSD drive to fill up from the PC and then connect to the T8 and xfer onto the 1TB after install. There's no real guidance in the manual about formatting a NVMe drive before or after install - so I guess that's my first question - do I need to pre-format the drive then install or ? I'm certainly not in danger of filling up the 1Tb drive as it's back catalog files of older CD's that have already been converted and downloads from LPs or Band Camp purchases. Just seeing if anyone has first hand experience before I jump in (no rush)
If it's already formatted you're just ready to go. If it is not, you can do it yourself on a PC, or directly on the Eversolo. Just make sure it is in an Android-friendly filesystem - that is: no Mac sh*t. With ExFat, Fat32, Ext4, NTFS (you may want ot double-check this last one), you're safe. And yes, I meant over wi-fy. Wired network could still be slow (due to the SMB layer) but yet, not thaaaat slow.
On the T8 select Music Services / Music Library /cog wheel / Scan and make sure Automatic updating is selected. I use my laptop and connect the SSD directly for the initial copy or for bulk transfers ... and let the automatic updating feature handle all incremental updates that I copy over the LAN.
Nutul - I've read your posts and although you seem to be a bit abrupt at times, it definitely sounds like you know what you're writing about. I just ordered a T8. My question is what are the best cable options to connect it to my DAC. It has optical, coax, USB, RCA and XLR. I apologize if you have already addressed this before.
@Wu1f RCA and XLR are not to be used to connect to a DAC. A DAC (D.igital to A.nalog) needs / wants an digital input, so you are limited to coax / optical s/pdif and USB (well, there are always the AES/EBU. or I2S things, but I am not a big fan of those. I'd suggest go USB. You'll be safe on many fronts). You can always try yourself and chose, although if you are a big fan of hi-res (especially PCM above 192 kHz, or DSD) you may want to stick to USB - let alone that you DAC "has to be able to handle that".
That is what I would do also. BUT. It depends on what the size of the "incremental" update is; as if the update takes longer (say, more than a cycle or two of) then the time it takes an automatic rescan of the library to complete, it may slow the whole process... If I were you, I'd leave the automatic update OFF, and just trigger it manually once the incremental file transfer completes. But that, as I always say, is just me. YMMV.
I started off with about 300GB of music on my NVMe card before installing it, then I used SMB to transfer more CDs onto it as I ripped them. Everything has worked perfectly and transferring one CD at a time has been fine and fast enough over my eero mesh. -Ed
So the transfer process is actually fairly easy once I explored the nuances of some of the more cryptic icons - I installed the NVMe drive in the T8 and formatted it with no bugs or issues. Then used a portable SSD to transfer the music files onto the SSD with a USB 3.2 connection so xfer speeds held up at 340 mbs. 50 Gb in about 15 minutes. Going forward I'll just use a 32Gb flash drive to do occasional updates or rip CDs direct to the SSD as I go thru the boxes of discs I have in storage. Thanks for the tips. The NVMe drive is a 1Tb Samsung 990 Evo Plus that was under $80 if anyone cares
Hi Keith, Mogami does indeed offer advantages for those on a limited budget, particularly when it comes to speaker cables. I recommended it to someone who bought my old Triangle system and wanted to keep the price down. It's precise and uncoloured, letting the signal pass through as is, which is appreciated in studios where neutrality is important. It gives the speakers good dynamics and delivers punchy bass. It is a benchmark cable in its price category, delivering neutral and transparent sound reproduction that goes above and beyond and can compete with more expensive cables. For your information, as you know, I am more of a subjectivist, even though I think it is always interesting to have both objectivists and subjectivists. What is interesting about Eversolo and their products is that both categories of audiophiles are satisfied with their products, which offer neutral and transparent sound, excellent measurements, and a very musical and natural approach to sound reproduction from a subjective point of view.
I can confirm that asynchronous USB, as in the T8, with excellent isolation, is praised for its versatility in terms of sound formats and its ability to transmit high resolutions with excellent dynamics and transparency. It has a reputation for clean, clear sound with better clarity and spatialisation. In addition, USB cables are less expensive and a standard one will suffice.
It’s not a question of budget, cables ‘can’ sound different if the manufacturer alters their electrical parameters enough to possibly change the FR of the speakers, ie a very crude tone control. There is nothing ‘better’ at any price than a fit for purpose cable from one of the ‘pro’ audio manufacturers. Every scrap of marketing from boutique cable manufacturers is bullsunflower. Keith
Hello I'm Marco Writing from Italy. I'm seriusly interested in buying the T8, I have a couple of doubts about it. I do not use online streaming services because I like to have my music on a 2 tb SSD, can I play music directly from it or should I necessarily tranfer files inside the Eversolo? Do you know what I2S output should I select to connect a Gustard R26 dac? Can I control the T8 via a Samsung tablet? It seems Eversolo only works on Apple tablets. Sorry for this bothering questions, this will be my first streamer... Thank you, have a nice day!
You can connect your 2 Tb external SSD to the T8 over USB, you can play direct from there and build a library from that external device, no problem, you don't have to transfer to an internal NVME SSD. Or if the drive is a NAS connected over network also no problem. There are 8 pinouts for I2S on the T8, if you look at the online manual it shows you the pinout details, you can then crosscheck with Gustard R26 data. You can control the T8 streamer from a Samsung tablet without any issues, that is exactly what I do, just download the Eversolo Control App from the PlayStore and run it.
