Eversolo SMB Access

Discussion in 'Eversolo DMP-A8' started by Signal to Noise, Mar 22, 2025.

  1. I believe after one or two Windows 11 updates the SMB share on DMP-A8 is no longer accessible. I am currently searching for a fix for this and first stop is here.

Previously I was able to access the SMB on Eversolo via Explorer/Network on Win11 and could copy music files from my NAS directly to the NVME SSD installed in the DMP. I do this for super high-res files so there’s no chance of glitching compared playing from NAS via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Anyone else come across this issue of late? Could be a permissions thing now but not sure.

    TIA.

I believe one crucial Win11 update introduced the mandatory username + password to access SMB shares, so that the guest + no-password access is no longer available.
Can't remember what needs to be done on the A8 though... surely some fellow user of SMB with Win11 will jump in and share some information.

In Mac, guest+no password still can be used to connect to internal SSD in Eversolo. Sometimes SMB can not work, might try http://IP address with also guess+no password.

Here's how to enable SMBv1 in Windows 11:
    1. 1. Open Control Panel:
You can access it by searching for "Control Panel" in the Start Menu or by clicking on it from the Start Menu.
    2. 2. Navigate to Programs and Features:
Click on "Programs" and then "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel.
    3. 3. Turn Windows features on or off:
Click on the "Turn Windows features on or off" option in the left-hand menu.
    4. 4. Find SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support:
Locate the "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" feature in the list and select the check box next to it.
    5. 5. Confirm and Restart:
Click "OK" and follow the prompts. You will likely need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

I’m fairly certain I have the “SMB 1.0/CIFS” checked on as it had to be in the past for SMB access to work. But nevertheless thanks for that reminder and I will double check when I’m back at that computer.

Yes, you are right, but after the windows update the SMB 1.0 seems disabled, so please check again, thanks!

I have the “SMB 1.0/CIFS” checked on and it doesn`t work.:(

  10. Interestingly, I double-checked and only the top-most option (Automatic Removal) was enabled. Must have happened during a more recent Windows update of which there were a few since the first post. So I enabled all the options as seen in the screenshot. Unfortunately it still doesn't work. I can see the DMP-A8 on the network but not the second SMB share that I would normally access in the past.

The icon seems connect through PnP, may be you can try use the explorer address bar and type
\\mike-a8 or the A8 IP address \\192.168.1.x (enter)
you may see the SMB share folder of you DMP-A8, also you may need to enter username & password.
    Hope this help!

We recently ran into the same issue and were able to resolve it by enabling user+password on the eversolo share:
Network -> Transfer -> Settings -> activate password (default user: root/default password: 123)
    Hope this helps!

  13. I will try this. Do I access the setting through the console interface, or the Eversolo app (I don’t see any options there), or from the computer/Windows?

I did the settings directly on the touchscreen of the Eversolo.

I have a Windows 11 Pro PC. I had SMB working then an update from Microsoft broke it. I set a local account on my PC with a user name and password. I was able to set up SMB with the local account. It’s been working for a month now without any issues

That was the problem such an update brough in: MANDATORY username + password for SMB access (that is: no guest / no-password access).
Once you define them. everything resumes working.
