Errrrr - I knew that lol! Could you though finally tell me if I need to restart either/or both the current film being watched or the UHD8000 for a revised setting to take effect? I just hope the change will be quick for evaluation purposes, if you know what I mean

Nope - just change the setting and it takes effect immediately.

Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask a question about HDFury and EDID.
Yesterday evening I spent about 6 hours testing settings, on Sicario2, Meg2 and the best I managed to get was the effect as in the screenshots below. I tested the Dave Harper AVSforum settings (all fields about Luminescence empty, global daiming supprted) as from this link https://www.avsforum.com/posts/62181045/

    1. Zidoo plugged into Vertex, Vertex plugged into Denon, Epson TW9400 plugged into the Denon output - correct?

    2. First question, could someone take a look at my screenshots from Denon, HDFury Vertex2 and Epson to see if everything is set up correctly?

    3. In EDID the first two profiles I didn't see much change in the image, I already thought that the differences were so small that it wasn't worth messing with it (400nit and 1000nit).
Only on the third one ( STD LLDV) I noticed that the contrast seemed to improve a little, the colors were a little more saturated and slightly shiny, the details maybe a little also due to the contrast.
I've looked through about 30 pages on AVSforum and I've had enough :D, the differences in the image aren't spectacular, but they're a bit on the plus side. Maybe I tested not the best scenes and movies, maybe it's more visible on others?

4.Do you have better Vertex DV settings that provide better results?
    5. Do other EDID profiles improve the image because it probably has a significant impact on the image quality, right?
if so which one do you recommend from the first page? after yesterday I'm already tired of testing the trial and error method really

    6. I captured this scene from Meg2, the clouds on the left and the color of the sky have changed a bit, the water seems the same

@Markswift2003 could you give me some advice and look at these settings?

Yes, that looks correct. Can't see your Vertex settings, but what you show looks correct.

As I always say, experimentation is the key.

Personally I use a Dolby Block with max nits of 100nits and an HDR message in the Vertex to match like this:

    upload_2025-3-29_12-36-20.png

And I use dynamic tone mapping in the projector.

This means that specular highlights above 1000nits are processed by VS10 and then the whole lot is dynamically tone mapped by the projector to its capabilities (100nits or so).

If I wasn't using dynamic tone mapping I'd use 400nits as the peak value (and 200 as average) so that the Dolby processor was doing more of the lifting.

I set everything like Dave Harper, he also had these fields empty in the settings he provided (it was the end of 2022, maybe out of date).
My Epson doesn't have dynamic mapping, so you advise me to set 400nits as the peak value (and 200 as average) yes?
My settings, what to change? @Markswift2003

Ok - I definitely wouldn't do the above!!

    1. If you do not define Max/Min Luminance, MaxCLL and MaxFALL in the HDR message then that's exactly the same as playing an HDR file that does not include that metadata and in that case the display will revert to its default fallback values - usually 1000nits which will be ok for some content, but not all.

    2. If you do not define Max/Min Luminance in the Dolby Vision Block then those will default to 100nits and 0nits respectively. 100nits is theoretically a good value for a projector because that's pretty much what they'll manage, but in practice it rarely works and although tone mapping is good, overall APL (Average Picture Level) is too low.

As I say, experimentation is the key - but at the very least you should match the value of Max Luminance in the Dolby Block to the values of Max Luminance and MaxCLL in the HDR message and you choose a sensible value somewhere in the middle for MaxFALL.

So try 1000/400 and try 400/200 - the sky in The Meg is a good tester.

But maybe also try 100/50 - you never know!

It's all a case of balancing how much work VS10 does vs how much work the display does and the relative abilities of each of them.

It's kind of an exact science and at the same time it kind of isn't because we're doing something the kit isn't supposed to be able to do and everyone's setup is different so what works for one may not necessarily work for someone else.

Close - but you need to use BT.2020 primaries and if you're using 1000nits, set as below:

I've now checked your settings 1:1 and it is indeed an improvement over mine, thanks!
In Zidoo I also changed to 400nit LLDV in EDID
I'll leave yours and go watch some movie finally :D

Do you also have a bug that when you close the browser from the Vertex menu and open it again, the settings you entered earlier are gone?

Is this the best you can get with sky and clouds? Are the differences similar on yours setup, do you remember maybe?

If you change to 400nit in the Dolby Block you have to change the HDR message to match.

Yep - it's just crap programming - if you close the browser and open again it reverts to default settings in the GUI but the original settings are still saved internally.

Dave Harper wrote me this, maybe it's dosnet work on Epson hmm.
Because we are talking about the same field, right?

Values in the Dolby Block should match the HDR message.

    Roger that!
    Thanks once again

edit: just to make sure your screenshots contain the values you are using - max luminance 1000 and min luminance 0.0001 in HDR and DV block - corect?

@Markswift2003 Could you please tell me what EDID you use in Zidoo, one of these 1-6? or do you use some CUSTOM EDID uploaded? if so which one?

Which one is best for a projector when using HDFury and LLDV?

I can't tell you what to use, I can only suggest as in all the posts above - personally I load a custom EDID into the Vertex, and in my situation I use a 1000nit LLDV EDID because of the projector's DTM, but you need to decide which is best for your setup. I suspect a 400nit EDID with a 400nit HDR message would work best.

There is no visual difference between using an EDID in the Zidoo, in the Vertex or using Automix in the Vertex as long as the parameters match. I prefer a Custom EDID in the Vertex for practical reasons.

Personally J 'use an edid 600 nits in LLDV with a JVC NZ7 ...... It can guide you!

    Thanks!
So when you use CUSTOM EDID from Vertex, do you disable the EDID tab in Zidoo or should it be enabled there as well?

I have EDIT enabled in Zidoo at 400 nits, and in Vertex set to 1000 nits, so I understand that this is a mistake. I wonder which setting is displayed hmm

Yes, you have to switch off Custom EDID in the Zidoo otherwise that is used.

Hey Mark, newbie here so might be a stupid question or question that's been asked before but I can't find a full answer to it sorry

I have S95D with Z9X 8K, is there any way to manually switch the Samsung to HDR more if I want to use lldv? Or would I need to get hdfury for this purpose?

What's recommended settings for VS10 for Samsung S95D? I've tried multiple different settings under Advanced HDR settings and by now they're a blur to me haha

Is it worth to enable lldv to watch Native DV on my s95d?
If yes, which EDID should I use with my set up?

Currently my connection is as follow:
    Z9X -> Q990B -> S95D
Is it better if I connect Z9X to S95D directly? (Would this allow passthrough for TrueHD and the likes or its better to connect it directly to the soundbar then to the TV for this purpose?)

Thanks for your help, been reading this forum since I got Z9X couple of weeks ago and you've been a blessing to this forum!

As far as I know, no, there's no way to switch the Samsung into its HDR mode without receiving an HDR signal, so you'd need to get an HDFury device to do this. I'd recommend at least a Vertex 2 because of its diagnostic capabilities, but an Arcana will do the job as a set and forget device. And yes, I'd say it's worth it.

If you do get an HDFury then I'd use a 1500 nit BT.2020 LLDV EDID, make sure the HDR message from the HDFury is set to 1500 nits and set HDR mode in the Zidoo to Auto - that way you'll get everything, including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision natively and take advantage of the brightness of the TV.

You can either create the EDID in the HDFury using Automix or I can add a 1500nit Dolby Block to your existing EDID - either way works much the same.

And I'd also just set HDR to Auto if you don't get an HDFury - that means that all content is native except DV which will either use the base layer (Profile 7 & 8) or will be converted to HDR10 with VS10 (Profile 5).

Personally I'd connect as you have - Z9X -> Q990B -> S95D because you don't need to use eARC then which requires CEC which is the work of the devil.
