Sorry if this has been gone over before. I have a Z2000 and just noticed I am not getting Dolby True HD via HDMI to my Onkyo RZ50. I have read that it's because there is no core track like DTS MA. All of my rips of Dolby sound are either Atmos or True HD. Is this correct that I cannot get the lossless sound with Dolby Atmos or True HD?
Does the new z3000 pro have the ability to play lossless Atmos or True HD?

Firstly, all the Zidoo players can play lossless DTS-HD, DTS-X, TrueHD and TrueHD Atmos - the Z2000 is definitely not an exception.

So with that amp and a Zidoo Z2000 you should have no issues whatsoever. In fact you'd have to try really hard not to get TrueHD.

So going need a few more details (and also a copy of your EDID would be helpful):

    To Download EDID
    ================

    Settings/Display/Custom EDID/Save EDID

Save to a USB stick or network location

Post file as attachment to forum

Okay, that makes me feel better. I'm going to have to check out my RZ50 settings then. When I look at the zidoo output it does say True HD, but for some reason my Onkyo does not say that on the "window" display. Not sure what could be causing it to not output the right audio.
It may be a few days before I can get to download the EDID to send to you. Thanks for the quick reply.

when you hit the "i" button on the RZ50 remote what does the OSD say it is receiving when you play a video with a known good trueHD track?

I have an RZ50 and a Z2600 and it is all working so I would be happy to offer settings and setup comparisons if you are having issues.

I will have to check that on my remote. I was just looking at the screen on the RZ50 itself. It only showed DD Surround 7.1, thought it should show True HD? At least that is what my previous Onkyo would show.
I appreciate the help. I will look at it when I get a chance.

Just out of curiosity what does your RZ50 front panel display when receiving a True HD or DTS-MA signal?

I have a z2000 pro and watch mkv remux’ all the time that have Dolby TrueHD or Atmos over TrueHD.

Have you enabled “raw” in your zidoo audio settings so it bitstreams the audio to your AVR?

Yes. It may actually be working correctly. I haven't been able to confirm because I work too much.:)
When I watched a movie the other night my display on the Onkyo receiver itself only said DD Surround 7.1, not Dolby True HD. Which seems incorrect, because my other Onkyo would show Dolby True HD in the display window.

Just found a non-Atmos TrueHD file and my RZ50 shows the dolby symbol with "DTHD" (not DTS-HD), the OSD says Dolby TrueHD.
DTS-HD MA 7.1 says "DTS-HDMSTR7.1" and the OSD also says DTS-HD MASTER 7.1

Okay, thank you. I will need to do some tests with various movies to see what is going on. When I looked at the Zidoo for the output it said True HD, but my Onkyo did not. Seemed like it was getting a lossy DD signal because the OSD said DD Surround 7.1.

Okay, it's working properly, just user error.
I must have overlooked the DTHD sign when scrolling through the different listening modes. It's outputting TrueHD and DTS-HD Master audio.:)

Hello, does someone tried to play directly .thd files? Doesn't work for me on zidoo z9x pro.
FYI, when playing from the image is working, I can select TrueHD and tthe sound is fine.
When extracting with DVD Audio Extractor, only the TrueHD stream, Zidoo doesn't want to play it.
    Thanks for your time.

Same. I watch movies almost every night that are MKV remux's from my physical media collection that have Dolby TrueHD, Atmos over TrueHD, DTS-HD MA or DTS:X, and everything is bit streamed. In your sound settings "auto" should do it so long as your AVR supports whatever codec. When in doubt, you could also try "raw" which forces it instead of relying on EDID information. Getting this to work should be a relatively straight forward thing.

.THD files might work in ZDMC/KODI, but M4A is the most common container for THD music files, MKA might work too, but that is less common.

When I'm listening to Bluray Atmos Music rips I use the M4A container and play them in ZDMC, though I mostly use Kodi on a Shield as it seems more reliable for music playback.. the zidoo tends to get stuck on stereo sometimes requireing a stop/play to kick it back into bitstreaming...

TrueHD is a proprietary format from Dolby, while MPEG-4 Audio, or M4A for short, is an audio file format from Apple.

I've tried Kodi, doesn't want to play .thd

I had some random issues with Z9X Pro with DSD but now with Z3000 Pro no issues.

.M4A is absolutely a container, not a specific codec.

the m4a container is compatible with Dolby TrueHD and they play with proper TrueHD passthrough bitstream in Kodi.
How did you obtain the *.THD file? can you try to put it into a container like MKA with mkvtoolnix? or if you ripped yourself re-rip into a different container format like MKV (use MakeMKV) and split it out to m4a tagged tracks with MMH. MMH can also convert MKA into M4A and while spitting into tracks.

The .thd files were extracted from a Blue-ray disk using DVDAudio Extractor software, chosing output format Direct Stream.

    Considering what Zidoo gives:
*Supports BD/UHD Blu-ray menu playback and gapless branching playback of Blu-rays with complex MPLS structure.
*Supports lossless music playback in formats like DSD (SACD ISO, DSF, DFF), WAV, APE, DTS.

I thought I can extract the audio track without watching the video, but looks like the .thd format is incompatible. The TrueHD can be played only via Blue-ray disk, apparently.

In the end, I can play via Zidoo Controlller and just turn off the TV.

    Thanks for your feedback.

It mostly has to do with the way Dolby licencing works, Kodi has a way around it but only with certain container formats (MKA and M4A for THD) whereas the zidoo's default player can only pass through THD when playing video because that's how Dolby intend THD to be used, compressed E-AC3 atmos can be played back as music no problem but Dolby TRUE-HD must be in a video container.

    Blame Dolby honestly.

.thd is a transport stream and is not meant as a standalone playback format - if you use .mpa as the container it should work.

OK, thanks for the explanations. My confusion came from the fact that Dolby TrueHD competes with DTS.
DTS can be exported in .dts which can be played. It's not the same with TrueHD and .thd files.
Indeed, in my case TrueHD is transported by m2ts which now I understand it's a container.

For now I cannot complain anymore, I can play the m2ts files and the sound is perfect. I have no hiccups, the sound is crystal clear.

For reference, I'm using Z3000 Pro with Yamaha RX-A8A.
