Connecting to UHD8000 from another PC

Discussion in 'Guides & FAQs' started by weitner, Mar 16, 2025.

  1. OK, Thanks for the heads up. I will ring my PC builders (Scan Computers) and get on Professional. I'll report back when I'm sorted.
    Hi Paul,

My Zidoo used to have the ip address 192.168.1.2 but I got on to Scan computers who built my PC and he changed to a static IP address (for the machine I think) anyway the ip addresss of the Zidoo changed to 192.168.1.7 but I still couldn't access it and I lost access to the net although the machine was connected to the router still by wifi. So we reverted back on the ip address thing althoug the Zidoo still says it is 192.168.1.7
After that I decided to upgrade to pro and this threw up an unexpected scenario. I expected to have to pay something but Microsoft Store just showed an Upgrade Now banner and when I clicked on it it proceeded to download to my PC. I didn't have sight of any product key or any bill and there was no request for my payment method and I have had no notification that money has been taken from my card or paypal. I have checked a number of ways on the PC and it always says I am on Win 11 Pro. Is this normal ? Just seems wierd.

Anyway I have confirmed that file sharing support is enabled and I did two pings. One with 192.168.1.2 and another with 192.168.1.7. Both seem to be working. Please see the attachment.

Now I am on Pro is there anything I need to do?

  2. Hi Paul,
I am trying exactly as you do but it takes an age and then comes up with a windows can't connect error.
I have used user name: root Pasword: 88888888. They work on my old win 8 machine but not on this one. :(:(:(

    Hello Alex,
What is the IP address of your old PC?
Also, can you take a screen shot of the File Explorer with the IP address of the Zidoo and the error you are getting.

  4. Hi Paul,
First off I have to say that you have been an absolute star in your efforts to help me along the way to cracking this. Because of your continued support you have kept me focused and determined. Without everybody's input I would have given up and sulked.:(:(:(
Along the way you have suggested stuff and taught me how to find my way round Win 11 , with which I was struggling. I owe you a million thanks.
Anyway, after my free upgrade to Pro I tried accessing Zidoo from This Computer, as you had taught me, and this timre I got a message of why it was failing which I didn't get with Home. See the attachment.
That message gave me a starting point and a Google gave me the answer. See second attachment.
I have now got the access that I wanted and Zidoo is now available on both machines.
I do think that it was just the last pice of the puzzle because you had already got me to alter other permissions and so, one again, a massive thank you for you time, patience and expertise. :D:D:D

That's Great, you did get a prompt for username and password as I suggested. The error message pointed to an Authentication error which you resolved on your own.
    Great Job.

    No Problem.

Please let the team know how you like the Zidoo. I am not a Zidoo support guy. Just a normal user.

If you have any more questions concerning your Zidoo unit, Markswitft2003 should be able to assist with that.

    Thanks

  8. Hi Paul,
I really like the Zidoo 8000 that I bought about 10 m0nths ago but it is not perfect.

    First the negatives:
Is slow to boot, but not stupidly so.
The poster wall didn't work for me with far too many mismatches that I never have tried to correct. It would be a mammoth task so I just refer to the drive contents and I am fine with that.
Can be slow to open a file and sometimes the file doesn't open on the first attempt.
Sometimes I wll get brief picture blackouts and have found that exiting the file and then restarting Zidoo usually clears this up. Normally the blackouts occur very early on in a movie but on rare occaisons
have been seen much further in.
The information on supported hard drive size given in the manual is incorrect . It said up to 16TB and so I bought two of that size. I later found out that it actually supports up to 24Tb and so bought two of those and they work just great . I put the 16s in a hub and connected that to the Zidoo but I am a bit annoyed at having two 16Tb in my hub when I would have preferred them to be 24s to match the Zidoo internal drives.

    Now for the positives :
It plays any file format that I need it to. That was why I got it.
It handles Doly Vision as well as the other HDR formats.
The picture quality is superb. It just seems better than my Sony Bluray player.
    The remote is great.
The unit has a great build quality.
Great menu system but could do with more simple explanations of some of the features.
Easy to use once you have set your preferences.

    Verdict:
Overall I am very happy but would like it even better if it never gave the occassional blackouts. I don't worry too much about the very early ones but it's a pain when they happen mid movie. Thankfully that is rare.
I paid just over £1000 for my unit and so it is not cheap but I am very happy that I bought it. I love using the machine for its versatility in file formats that it plays and having all of my movies available at a few clicks of a mouse instead of faffing around with discs.
I would definately buy it again.

  9. Hi Mark,

Just to say a massive thank you for all the help that you gave me yesterday. Without your input I would still be tearing my hair out trying to get my head around this. Once I had got on Win Pro the cause of the problem became apparent and was then easily solved. You were spot on in your assesment and a million thanks for helping me sort out the mess that is Windows 11. It was a permission in Group Policies!

One odd thing about updating to Pro was when I visited the Microsoft store I couldn't see any pricing for upgrading to Pro from Home but there was a button for Upgrade Now. When I clicked on this it downloaded and upgraded the PC to Pro but without any charge.
I did wonder if the upgrade had actually happened and so I checked in a few places on my PC and it reported that I was indeed on Pro. I was also able to activate and use Sandbox which is only on Pro and not on Home.
Have you any idea whhat is going on here?

Anyway, once again, thank you for helping me to regain my sanity!

You're very welcome - I usually keep out of network issues as it's an absolute minefield, but glad to help - and I'm also glad you got Win 11 Pro - Home is just atrocious!

As for the upgrade - no idea - I always spec Pro from the outset - it's possible that you may get prompts to activate it after a period, but I don't think anyone anywhere truly understands Microsoft's update policies! Even Microsoft.

    Hello Alex,

Per your UHD8000 mine boots up pretty quickly. Make sure you are up to date on all firmware, including ht5.0 updates. Those are the ones that have fixes for poster mismatches. Once the MT5.x fw fixes are installed, I would do another scan and let it fix at lot of those mismatches. markswitch2003 should be able to assist with these issues as well as the blackouts you are having. My unit is perfect now after having to play around with it to get the best settings to match my Sony 285ES projector.

    Good Luck.

  12. Hi Paul,

You say to make sure the unit is up to ddate on ALL firmware. including ht5.0 updates. Now I know where the main update check is (and it says it is up to date) but I'm not familiar with the ht5.0 update place. I wonder if you could explain where I find that.

I believe you can download those from the forums, markswift2003 should be able to assist you with those.

    Thanks

  14. OK, Thanks. I'll reach out to him.

  15. Hi'
Paul Mardis has suggested that I should install ht5.0 updates and said you may be able to assist. I'm not at all sure where to get them from.

If you have FW v1.2.22 then you have the latest HT5 release for the UHD 8000 (a later version is included with v1.2.25 but that's only available for the Z9X 8K at present).

There is an Alpha if you want to try it:

  17. Hi,
My Zidoo 8000 is reporting Firmware version 1.1.38 and says it's up to date. Is that correct?

Wow, no, latest is v1.2.22. Tick the beta box.

  19. Thanks for that suggestion. The Zidoo went through 3 to 4 cycles of what I think were different updates and ended with 1,2.22. Then to round things off it did an update for the remote. Something about the power button and another function. Judging from the changelog for the main unit I think most of my issues may have been sorted.

What worries me is why the auto update wasn't working and why, whenever I checked it was on the same firmware it arrived with and always said I was up to date when i checked. is there a way for me to get a notification when a new update is released? How often do they generally arrive?

By the way I have lost access to Zidoo on my new PC aagain although I didn't change any settings.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Hello Alex,

What error are you now seeing on your PC when you try to reconnect to it. Remember, the Zidoo box has to be powered on in order to connect to it.
Also, my sure the IP address did not change on the Zidoo box.
I would set the IP address in the Zidoo box as a static IP address in both the Zidoo box and on your home router. This way it will always connect if powered on.

When I need to connect to the Zidoo via PC to copy files to it, here is what I do.

    Power on my Zidoo UHD8000
Once it is fully booted, I go to Windows File Explorer
    Click This PC
Click in the explorer browser windows for This PC.
You should then drop-down and see the IP address of the Zidoo that was previously added.
Click the IP address, you should then see the Zidoo "share" folder.
If you get a prompt for username and password, add those and click "remember me".

This way when you need to connect again, you will not be prompted to re-add the username and passwords.

    Good Luck
