Hello all I am using CEC volume control in my Zidoo to control the volume of the AV8805 PrePro. This works wonderfully nice but everytime the volume is changed, a message is displayed on the top left corner letting me know that CEC is adjusting volume. This message is displayed within the black bars of a cinemascope movie and does therefore trigger the madVR Envy's automatic aspect management to re/downscale the image into the height of the screen. This is super annoying and totally distorts the experience in this volume adjustment scenario... How on earth could one turn this useless message off entirely? Best, Houbi
+1 one to the request. You will also find that the CEC volume control is very slow. In my case, if I hold the volume button down for a couple of seconds, it seems to queue up all the key repeats and the volume continues changing for several seconds after I have released the button. It looks like the Zidoo may be sending a pressed and released key event for each repeat. That approach is not going to work, since CEC specification limits the update rate to no more than twice a second. The Zidoo should send a 0x44 <User Control Pressed> when the volume button is pushed and send a 0x45 <User Control Released> when the volume button is released. That will cause the AVR to update the volume as expected and step when expected. The LG G4 seems to get it right.
It works pretty well in my case together with the AV8805. No delay I could feel and also short and long presses seem to work fine. The AV8805 is connected to the madVR Envy over IP which then draws a wonderful volume OSD bar (which I had to disable in the AV8805 since it's volume OSD is placed outside of the 21:9 screen area..). So it basically works perfectly fine for me from a technical point of view, but the annoying and useless info message totally ruins it because it triggers the Envy to rescale the picture into the height of the screen on every single volume click... Without that message everything would be just perfect.
Just another example of CEC being as crappy as it is - fine for one person, unusable for another. I agree with you about the Volume OSD from Zidoo being unnecessary. @Markswift2003 @Zidoo Support-Kim : Can we please request to add an option to disable the CEC Volume adjusting OSD message?
Agree. I avoid using CEC since like 20 years or so but for this one specific thing its great.. having just one remote in my hands, controlling movie playback as well as volume control with one remote. A very nice cooperation between Zidoo, AV8805 and the madVR Envy with it‘s OSD volume bar. in my setup the CEC notification is not only totally useless (i know I‘m controlling volume since I just pressed the button a few milliseconds before), it‘s really getting a super hard annoyance because it triggers multiple aspect ratio changes in the madVR, which of course are absolutely unwanted in that scenario. the CEC message should either be disabled/removed at all (its useless either way) or at least there should be an option to opt out of it… this would really greatly enhance the user experience!
I have the exact same thing happening with my Anthem MRX receiver - i'm getting 2 black windows appear when i change volume with zidoo remote: the CEC message window and Anthem's onscreen display. i repeat Houbi's request: "the CEC message should either be disabled/removed at all (its useless either way) or at least there should be an option to opt out of it…"
