HDMI is set to 1080p23 (80% of my movies are still in 1080p blu-ray, I prefer to default at 1080p23 and auto-switch to 4k when playing a 4k content).
Just tried with HDMI in auto and lock disabled, and it works, the movie plays in 4k even in menu mode.

With HDMI set to 1080p23 (lock resolution disabled), what's weird is that it starts playing the top level Blu-ray menu in 4k / HDR, and when I click "Play movie" in the Blu-ray menu, it switches to 1080p / HDR

And you can't set HDMI to Auto?

If I set it to auto, it boots most of the time in 4K/60, which means that it’ll auto-switch on all of my content. And while I love the fact that it does when resolution or frame rate does not match, I’d like to reduce it to its minimum as it takes some time to synch (7-8s on my projector).

btw, the lock resolution works better on my Z1000 Pro than it used to on my former Z1000: it only forces the boot setting. On the Z1000, it changed at some point to also disable the auto-switch, which is not ok, I stopped using it.

maybe its not the resolution that make your projector sync about 7-8s, same like my projector, it was HDR that make it sync :(

Yes indeed, when launching an HDR movie, the auto-sync takes a bit more time as the projector switch from Lamp Eco mode to Lamp High mode.
But still, if my Zidoo boots in 4k and I start a 1080p23 movie, I'll still have to wait 5-7s for the auto-sync to be complete.
It's indeed much faster on my TV.

Got my TV swapped. The new one does HDR10+, and DV in both TV-led and Player-led modes. :)
Judging picture quality will take me some more time. ;)

I've got an issue with MKV files with chapters. For example the MKV file has 13 chapters. I can correctly navigate (using remote Page Button +/-) between the first 12 chapters (1/13, 2/13, 3/13, 4/13, ...), but when I jump to the last one chapter it is shown chapter 1/1 instead of 13/13 and finally I can't jump back to previous chapters. Could one confirm this issue?

Not sure why but that HEVC file is encoded in L6.1 - for example safe level in Plex is L5.1.
    Could be the problem.

About the HDR jungle. My conclusion at the moment is:
    - LG: HDR10 and DV in TV-Led and Player-led modes (but actual DV support varies with models)
    - Panasonic: HDR10(+) and DV in TV-Led mode (Player-led not supported models before 2021)
    - Philips: HDR10(+) and both DV in TV-Led and Player-led modes (models after 2019)
    - Samsung: HDR10(+) with DV not supported
    - Sony: HDR10(+) and DV Player-led mode (TV-led not supported models before 2021)
Can the TV industry make a bigger mess about this? They are doing their very best for sure.
There is even talk about DV IQ and HDR10+ adaptive in the pipeline but frankly equivalent features are mostly already incorporate by high-end TV's.

The studios producing movies on UHD/HDR discs in't any better:
HDR10: Available on most but not all discs
HDR10+: Available on a very few discs only thus far and then mostly in combination with DV
DV: Available on relative few disc and then always combined with HDR10(+).

HDR10+ is just kicking off and in my perception close to DV regarding PQ. DV TV-led is to be preferred on high-end TV's mostly but DV Player-led is relevant for using the VS10 engine.
This for the relevance if a standard is supported by a TV brand.

Please correct where I am wrong. Will add it next to the HDR updated RTD1619 overview topic.

I am happy with my Philips 55OLED805 doing it all for me with both Zidoo and OPPO players. What is missing is HDMI2.1 and eARC support!
For the time being using OPPO only for MCH Music playback (SACD and DVD-audio) and occasional BD Menu support. The PQ using Zidoo for HDR is very close without a verdict which one is better. Need to watch a variety of sources first.

The latest Sony TVs (2021) support TV led DV in addition to last years XH90.

Sony are the whole reason we have Player led DV so we can't give them a hard time, but they have introduced TV led in recent models.

Panasonic also support Player led DV, at least in later models.

Then there's HLG to consider and even Dolby Vision IQ - yeah, it's a real mine field!
