I am using my Z9X with an USB Docking and SMB Server active. Want access by PC to change content or any other player then it acts as a NAS Server.
As only the active HDD is running they last very long. In fact I need to replace them just to swap for bigger ones which can be done per unit Plug & Play. Also good for power consumption and noise.

    Hi guys,

I recently bought the Z1000 Pro and I am enjoying it immensely!

Aside from a few quirks (namely online subtitle search engine not working correctly for my language), I believe there is an issue with DV output.

My TV is the 2021 Sony Bravia 77A80J which supports both TV-led and player-led Dolby Vision.

However, if I set the Zidoo to output TV-led DoVi (standard DoVi in the settings), it always outputs “12 bits YUV422”, which is typical of player-led output, instead of “8 bits” which should be the appropriate output for TV-led (or standard) DoVi. Is this a bug?

    Thanks

Hmm - it shouldn't do that...

Can you grab your EDID and post here (change file extension from .bin to .txt so the forum accepts it).

Goto Settings/Display/Custom EDID/"Save EDID" and save to a USB stick is easiest.

Here is the EDID (not sure I did the right thing with the bin to txt conversion).

    Thanks!

Found the culprit for this behavior!

I am using the Philips Hue Sync Box between the Zidoo and my TV (it syncs the lights from the Hue light strip behind the TV with the video content). The Sync Box supports Dolby Vision syncing as well as passthrough, however the lights don’t always sync correctly when playing DoVi content. So there is a setting within the Hue Sync app called “Dolby Vision enhanced compatibility”. When enabled, it fixes the sync issues, but apparently somehow converts the DV signal to player-led.

I unchecked the option and the Zidoo now outputs 8 bits in its standard setting.

Ah - that makes sense. Glad you sussed it.

Out of interest, the Dolby Block in that EDID decodes as below - as you can see it is LLDV only:

    DV Version: 2
    DV DM Version: v3.x
DV Interface: low latency 422 12bit
    2160p60: supported
    YUV422 12bit: supported
    Global Dimming: not supported
Backlight Control: not supported, default 100 nits
    RED Primary: 0.680, 0.320
    GREEN Primary: 0.266, 0.691
    BLUE Primary: 0.148, 0.059
    MAX/MIN Luminance: 1037 / 0.001 nits

Looking at this EDID, it hasn't been modified by the Hue box so I'm not sure why the Dolby Block is LLDV only - I think these TVs have two modes - LLDV and Standard/LLDV and the Hue box must be triggering switching between those modes - might be worth trawling through the Sony's menus to see if you can override this and keep the Hue box in its enhanced mode.

Interestingly I have another EDID here for a Sony A90J which has something called "Dolby Vision Enhanced Mode" and the Dolby Block in this EDID with Dolby Vision Enhanced Mode is:

    DV Version: 2
    DV DM Version: reserved
DV Interface: standard and low latency 422 12bit
    2160p60: supported
    YUV422 12bit: not supported
    Global Dimming: not supported
Backlight Control: not supported, default 100 nits
    RED Primary: 0.680, 0.320
    GREEN Primary: 0.266, 0.691
    BLUE Primary: 0.148, 0.059
    MAX/MIN Luminance: 1037 / 0.000 nits

I suppose you are talking about the HDMI signal format within the Bravia menu’s. Yes, there are 3 options for 2 of the 4 HDMI inputs: standard, enhanced, and enhanced Dolby Vision. The other 2 HDMI inputs have only standard and enhanced.

The A80J and A90J are almost identical, except for the heat sink on the A90J which allows it to push out a few extra nits with HDR content, as well as a slightly different acoustic speaker. And that’s it.

Haha. There is enough said about DV and EDID in the general overview for the new players. There are far better detailed topics for both created by a real specialist on this forum. :p
    Guess who that is? :D

May I ask why you feel the need to exert your opinions like this on the forum please? I've noticed an increased tendancy from you in this regard.

I feel it is much easier for most visitors to keep topics bundled and concentrated. I see e.g. the same questions asked over and over again constantly on different locations.
It is also the reason I keep updating my main posts with corrections and additions. No need to read all the following replies for most visitors.
Also stopped answering questions if already covered well in a main topic. Just point to that then and/or copy its content. But I may be wrong there.

Maybe indeed I should not mind?

I think you should mind - I tend to agree with you. Ages ago I said: - "This forum is looking a mess already right now (as I've mentioned before) and should be much better organised and laid out". Too much attention on HT4 / Subtitles / Language Translations which are cluttering up the forum IMHO. Of course these are all important but they need their own sub-forums. As do EDID / DV / HDR matters. And if it fits with Zidoo's descriptions, then there should be sub forums for the "High End" and "HiFi" models regarding Audio matters. Since I last mentioned this back in April, things have got much worse and some attention is now required, I feel.

All I would say though (and I have learned from my own heavy handidness) that there is a way to get your points over - being blunt does not help - that is all I'm saying. Maybe we should ask members for their opinions / ideas as to how better to layout the Forum with Sub-Forums ? What do you think?

'There is a tendency to create special topics partly stimulated by Zidoo staff. That is positive. These players are getting increasingly complex so the many doubts, unknowns and questions won't go away.

So what do you think about a refresh of the Forum's Layout?

It's a valid option and good suggestion but for a free/open forum?

Is there an issue with 24fps Dolby Vision contents when Framerate switching is set to off? I ran into error with several 24fps titles including:
    • The Fifth Element (Studio Canal UK release)
    • Basic Instinct (UK Release)
    • RAN (UK Release)
    • Olympus Has Fallen (Germany Release)
I had to turn Framerate Switching to Framerate Only and restarted the Z10 Pro to get those files to play.

Is there a catch with the Z1000 Pro’s front display? It worked normally for 2 days and now it’a dead. Nothing.
