Hi' I have a dmp-A6 and would like to know if airplay 2 is in the pipeline and coming. thank you for your hard work !
Although it was originally advertised as having Airplay 2 by Eversolo and then was removed, i now see it as unlikely. Zidoo support has told me yes in the past, but when addressing @mirror or any other company reps publicly on these forums you get radio silence on this issue. Looking at the newly release DMP-A8, they don't mention Airplay at all on the main webpage but Airplay is listed deep in the spec sheet. No mention of Airplay 2 for the DMP-A8 specs which I find really odd. Any new device that comes with Airplay in the past couple of years includes Airplay 2, why would you come out with a brand new device and include an old revision of a wireless protocol ? Something must be weird with Eversolo's implementation and the licensing/certification process with Apple or they are just trying to cut corners and save money.
I emailed Zidoo support tonight and the person that replied stated that Eversolo are still working through Apple's certification process for Airplay 2 and continue submitting revisions to "Apple officials" but don't have a timeline for approval.
Morning, that a least sounds not like lost...so sit and wait (if it is coming in a couple of months, I can live with it), thanks for checking (German support didn't replied to me till today :-(
Thanks for this post. What did you end up doing? I'm in a similar boat. Re: licensing/certification, that's an interesting question. Only other tech I've bought in the last few years that supports only the original AirPlay is a Rose streamer/amp. Interesting that these two tech-forward devices in the same sector have that same shortcoming. I know that AirPlay and Apple Music are two totally different things, but I do get the feeling the common denominator goes to "Apple doesn't like to play nice." But that's conjecture (from someone steeped in Apple, so this isn't a hate post). In fact, lack of AirPlay 2 is why I returned the Rose. I bought the Eversolo days later because documents I read all said AirPlay 2. It wasn't until I tried streaming to multiple outputs that I learned the hard way. Since that accounts for maybe 30% of my use case, that's a significant issue. As an Apple Music subscriber, I accept Eversolo's workaround but can't compromise on this need. It's a shame. I love both the Eversolo and the Rose. I no longer keep tech based on the promise of an upgrade so this'll go back. Not sure where I'll go next. I'd hold off but I just added an old school two-channel system that's just an amplifier and two speakers (so far). With Arcam just announcing its next gen for the Fall and Rose's own line-up now two-ish years old... I have this gut feeling it's best to try and hold out a few months. My amplifier is still within its own return window, so I could swap it for one with AirPlay 2... but this one sounds "just right." First world problems, of course. Too bad music/audio is my escape from real problems. Kinda makes this first world problem a little more real. Ah, well. Off to start the return.
The actual airplay version of the DMP-A6 only offers lossy AAC (256) format, that means audio quality equals a simple bluetooth protocol. At least ALAC should be possible, which is part of Airplay 1. Maybe part of the still missing certification to use this? But so the airplay version of the DMP-A6 is not as good as Airplay 1...
May the upcoming WiiM Ultra with Touchscreen and Phono-Premamp might be an option then?. Wiim all streamer had Airplay 2 from the start. Don't know about the "inside" so DAC etc. but first pics looks nice.
AirPlay sucks … There is absolutely nothing about it that appeals to me . I never use it .. and it’s far too easy to blast your speakers with 100% full volume if you’re not mindful of where the phones ringer volume is when you use it. ask me how I know …… Bk
Actually DMP-A6 plays ALAC over AirPlay. I dumped the stream, compared resulting file size with ALAC file. It is of the same size. AAC320 is 2,5 times less. Also if you listen critically you will notice that there is no soundstage shrinking that is the most audible difference with lossy codecs. The issue is in a wrong display of codec on the screen. It is a bug. I mailed about it to support. They accepted the claim.
Sample rate of being coded audio and bitrate of a stream are two different things. You can have 44,1 sample rate and different bitrates for that stream with AAC - 128, 192, 256, 320. Bitrate is not displayed at the screen. Only sample rate that is not very informative for Airplay for which having bitrate in addition to sample rate would be more useful
