Thank you for your inputs to my question. I do find it weird that the a8 volume doesn't get going past 50db and for a while I thought it was broken. In any case, it is my gateway to my music and I will use it as dac only, connecting it to another preamp, then to a power amp. My hope is that the Eversolo engineers do include a software update where the issue can be rectified . All other aspects of the a8 are solid and even thought it has its quirks still a very good dac for the price. Thanks again for your answers. Cheers.
Very Happy to help you anytime, however there are probably hundreds of posts on this particular subject, I’m very happy to help you in the foreseeable future, If it is in range or scope of my past experience and my own personal knowledge,, I am no Expert still learning after decades of experience, of some very few quite knowledgeable,And very open minded individuals , a couple of us are just sitting here. Had to laugh , how do you just know that certain individuals Will absolutely show up, with some kind of off-the-wall remark, or snappy comment , they’ve been spanked three or four times, it’s a shame it’s a pretty decent informative fourm ,until ? You need a proper preamp and have to set the A8 to fixed volume = 0db Then everything is more or less fine. In the end, I guess there are better and more cost efficient solutions considering the fact one has to spend extra money in a proper preamp. Keces Ebravo Streamer plus Laiv uDAC is cheaper and will sound at least as good as the A8 internal DAC. Will be really interesting which price Eversolo will ask for the upcoming pure streamer transport T8
Jokerk, I have been trying to tell folks almost exactly as you stated for the last year and a half But very apprehended you’ve had some folks on here that absolutely agreed not, i’m not trying to be condescending or in anyway sounds facetious towards yourself, but this issue of needing a preamp is starting to get so old. My hair is actually starting to turn gray, ;-) Along with countless other users N I would imagine they have extremely bad hearing would be the only logical conclusion that I could come to yes, it has been absolutely a very long time now however, let me apologize. There are folks and users out there that are using different equipment powered speakers just about any type of other equipment. You could probably imagine that claim they do not need a preamp and the unit works out fine in which I am inclined to believe them. I have no reason to doubt their authenticity I am sorry to stay in just purely my own personal opinion that when the T8 does come out or a time of arrival, I’d be willing to get money on it will have no more gain or output then the problem that’s been talked about for approximately the last year, Spoke with a gentleman that has an A10, He went on to explain to me the over all output level of the A-10 , Which replaced his A8 Has no more output level than that of the prior unit, Purely my personal opinion, I believe the T8 Will be the same, I’m not talking about measurements and specifications. I’m talking about the average person, hooking it up and having amble gain and volume to the level of myself and most folks I know in my part of the world anyway where the volume gain or level knob is set between the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock position, I have three other preamps that I have acquired throughout the years and that’s about exactly the same point of level for all three that are from different manufacturers and made and assemble at different times, only with the exception of one, it runs a pretty hot output almost 18 DB. I find it extremely hard to stay in a fairly size listening room and get the gainer volume knob up till around 12 position I am not being facetious as I am walking through the park here doing text talk on an iPhone. I actually thought it was somebody kind of just joking around for like a better terminology, Seriously But that’s cool please have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the music I absolutely hope not and I could be quite wrong but I think you may be doing a little bit of wishful thinking just my opinion I hope I’m wrong
very good call in your like and I respect that but the part that bothers me you’re supposed to be educated gentlemen individuals that’s wonderful and I’m glad to hear and very happy that it works for you. Consider yourself quite lucky or try to respect other people‘s opinion of what works and does not work for them For some reason you guys are under the strange impression that because this particular situation has worked out very well for yourselves. It automatically falls upon the Absolute view that that it also should be the same for everyone else. I am just very surprised at educated people with with such narrow minded, thinking what a shame With all due respect, consider the source of the individual that is coming from. I would think not assume that that would clear up quite a bit of question and so do quite a few other people, but I guess they’re all wrong too. Reading this long thread, I think in the end this whole issue comes down to user perception of what their volume knob should give them when they turn it by 'x' amount. The A8 has a digital dial that spins around in small increments. It also provides its reading, which indicates volume attenuation rather than loudness. This in turn is influenced by the source output level (the A8's RCA or XLR, the Power Amplifiers' gain setting and the speaker sensitivity. This results in lots of variation in what volume attenuation level realte to listening levels. Oh, and don't forget the recording! Many are used to an analogue dial with 1 to 10 and well, 3 is background, 5 is comfortable listening and 7 or 8 is super loud. I know this issue as I lost my Power Amplifier in a storm just recently which saw me replace it with a very old 50w rated Rotel BX Power Amp. It needs to be turned up to -15 dB to get a 70 dB listening level. My previous Power Amp using the XLR's was -38db for the same! At 0 dB, the Rotel was producing 90db - loud but no headroom, so the soundstage was flat and uninspiring. I know this amp with its accompanying Rotel Preamp goes louder and sound much better with the same speakers, but not the Eversolo. So the issue is real and Eversolo needs to take it seriously. If you have to use RCA's the listening levels are not great. With XLR's it is fine. Perhaps what Eversolo could do is allow its software to create a normalised range of volume, which instead of using dB, it uses a %. Setting the upper and lower level the steps could define a smooth range of volume attenuation that doesn't freak users out with those misunderstood volume attenuation values, no matter how audiophile they are. Of course, this does not address the issue with power amplifiers that have a low Power Amplifier Gain struggle with the low initial signal strength and need to be turned up to a user level, which is uncomfortable in the mind - like -5db.
Thank you very nicely put or stated , this particular ratio you have explained above is what other folks, including myself have been somewhat trying to stipulate and explain , I guess it’s approximately close to two years now, but I’ll stick with the year and a half just for accuracy purposes, exactly as you STATE, plenty of loudness, but no headroom beautiful unit, but has no hard drive to the point where the preamp section is almost as passive again thank you for the well put post an explanation that some folks just cannot seem to comprehend , now of course taking all other circumstances in a consideration if your speakers are over 100 db efficiency or other factors that come to play absolutely you may have a totally different experience but as it basically lies, the unit has no drive however, I’m sure there are a great deal of folks or users out there that are satisfied but in real world audio with very large speakers and a medium size room you’re gonna have to put a preamp or an integrated amp behind it to get it to perform correctly but thank you for the interesting thoughts.
