The listed equipment is what Rogier has available in his environment not necessarily used in the specific review of the A8. He did not state the A8 was only used as a streamer or dac. Unless otherwise stated he most certainly tested the A8 as a preamp/dac/streamer. Rogier does give a subjective listening review of the A8. John gives the measurements.
Rogier wrote: "A little music-making powerhouse of exceptional versatility, it laughs at vaguely pejorative terms like chi-fi, confidently taking a top position in the sub-$5000 streamer/DAC category." So, he explained very clearly what he was testing. In Stereophile reviews I always pay more attention to the listeners' reports than to measurement results (80:20%). Some very respected audio magazines/websites (The Absolute Sound, fairaudio.de, 6moons, ...) don't perform measurements at all. Here is an interesting example of a Stereophile review where: - the listener Art Dudley wrote: "I have never heard a CD player that beats this combination in the ability to involve me in the magic of notes and rhythms, or that presents lines of notes in such a musical and attention-grabbing manner. Vigorously recommended." - John Atkinson wrote (based on his measurements): "Overall, it is difficult to avoid the temptation to describe the Audio Note DAC 2.1x Signature as "broken"! https://www.stereophile.com/content/audio-note-cdt-oneii-cd-transport-dac-21x-signature-da-processor I know a high respected owner of a recording studio who has that DAC in his private system.
You may as well read Harry Potter, JA’s measurements are the only contribution of any value and his measurement techniques and equipment badly need updating. Keith
The only solution to protect myself from your annoying posts is to put you on my ignore list. You're the only one on my list.
"You may as well read Harry Potter, JA’s measurements are the only contribution of any value and his measurement techniques and equipment badly need updating." Subjective still has a place along side measurements even Amir does this lightly. JA's equipment may need upgrading but is good enough to give us an idea. If you based all your views around measurements you have to realise we still don't have all the measurement criteria solved. It has improved which is good. I've always used measurements, subjective and listened over 45 years. Unfortunately today its difficult to hear components now due to the decline of retail stores and often have little interest in spending time with listening sessions. When I was last in London listening was very difficult shops closed then open odd hours and in what seemed to be inaccessible places. Never saw any. My last three purchases online unheard products. Many products still only have manufacturers specifications and not reviewed. Which is why I've largely gone for Pro gear because these guys have always measured and priced products at a reasonable level, although today this market pricing is now moving beyond reasonable.
I for myself am so much disappointed by Eversolo and the wrong promises in their documents and their webpage (the A8 is simply not real preamp) that I really think about selling the A8. And that although I still have the LHY LPS to be installed. My Burson Soloist 3XGT preamp brings a day and night difference. But I guess I will switch to a LAiV Harmony uDAC and a pure streaming bridge. Which one is still to be decided. Kurt
The A8 is exactly as its specifications and measurements suggest, a state of the art streamer/preamp.The power supply won’t make the slightest difference so don’t bother installing it. Keith
Keith please stop adding your nonsense answers. Really no one is interest in. Would be helpful for all of us. THANKS
It is not too late for you to actually learn something about the hobby you enjoy, start reading ASR, ask questions, genuine world class engineers post there. At the moment your posts make you look a complete fool. Keith
The fool is you meaning that graphs and measurements decide about whether I like a music device or not. Measurements can be a hint, but nothing more. Goodbye Keith
It’s electrical engineering the measurements mean everything, try and learn, with actual knowledge you won’t continue to be fooled by online ‘influencers’. Keith
Let’s hope those ‘next steps’ involve you actually learning something about the hobby you enjoy. Keith
Let's hope you learn how to treat people with more respect and stop annoying everyone with your nonsense comments.
The Ignore feature is very helpful on this forum. I have three people on my list, and the whole forum seems so much calmer without them!
