Yesterday, I connected my CD player to my A6 via the optical port and selected it as the source. Today, I tried to stream from Amazon Music Unlimited and couldn't get it to work. Everything connected properluy. Everything was working until I changed the source and played the CD. Turning the A6 off and restarting it did (via the knob) not fix the problem. I had to turn off the main power switch on the rear of the unit and turn it back on to make it work again. (FYI - I am running the latest firmware update, as far as I know. I have not seen one announce itself on startup for a while.)

No such thing as a silly question. And, yes, I did select internal player as the source prior to streaming.
Then it looks like there is a bug when a physical input is selected, and we go back to a "virtual" input... See if others can confirm, or we can always try to ask @Zidoo Support-Kim if she is aware of this.
That was not the problem. I had the same thing happen again when trying to stream music from Amazon Unlimited. One day it worked normally with no issue, the next there was no sound. It connected with Amazon without a problem and started to "play" the first track of the title I selected. Only no sound came out of my connected Genelec powered speakers. No amount of restarting would correct this using the knob alone. I had to turn the power off, using the rocker switch on the back of the unit, then start it by pressing the knob. Everying worked normally after that, but who knows how long it will last? This is one of two A6 Gen2 streamers that I bought this year. Both had to be sent back for repairs when the startup buttons stopped working. Both repaired units had to be sent back when the problem recurred on each of them. They sent me two replacements (with different serial numbers), which I have been using for less than a month. The one that is flaky is used only about once per day, for less than an hour. This whole experience has been much different than what I expected, given this device's price, specs, reviews, and popularity. I have had gear which cost much less and operated for much longer without a glitch.
I remember this case, and I understand that it's annoying. You said it would work properly after a restart, so we suspected there's a hardware issue. But it's ok to try it later. Firstlly could you tell me more details? --- 1. what ourtput method you used while the issue occured? 2. When there's no sound, please take a screenshot of the output method after clicking the gear icon.("Source" page) Thanks.
1. Genelec powered speakers connected to the XLR outputs on the A6. 2. Hasn't happened again, but the output method would not be different. 3. CD-player connected to A6 (optical INPUT). The issue occured with CD playback first, and with internal player next -- so it does not appear to be realated to input connections. It was reset both times by powering off -- but not when using the knob.
I only have one, under under "Streaming". What's the difference? Also, this forum is acting buggy. It's surpressing images and making me login to respond, though I have checked the option to stay logged in every time.
I don't know how to do that. There is no option to save or discard cookies on screen that I can see. The forum was working fine and not doing this until recently and I haven't changed anything on my end.
Have you changed your behavior...? Like, closing and reopening the browser, instead of leaving it open all the time? So far you are the only one reporting this, hence it must definitely be something on your side...
No, I haven't changed my behavior and I don't keep the browser open all the time. I am also still getting email notifications for this thread, although I have never enabled them and I turn them off every time that I post to this thread. At least, this time -- finally -- it has kept me logged in.
So most probably from now on will also refrain from sending you e-mails too. What I meant is: I have been a member for more than 2 years now, and never got forced to login (just one time, though, I think the lease lasts 1 year), not got any e-mail. The problem is either you, or your browser. P.S. you might have cleared xthe browser's cache / memory / cookies / history etc, which would lead you to the same result: sites no longer remeber who you are.
The internal Amazon music: Streaming--Music The third-party app: Home--Apps or Streaming--Apps When it doesn't play sound, can the local tracks be played as normal? Could you please confirm it? BTW, ragarding to the worries about the account, you can try clearing its login info via Home--Apps--longpress and tap clean data. If you're using the third-party one.
When it doesn't play, you don't hear anything. The progress bar moves, it appears to be playing, but no sound can be heard through the connected speakers. The only thing that works is turning the A6 off -- and only if you use the toggel switch on the back of the case. (The knob does not work for this purpose.) Once it enters the state of not putting out a signal to the speakers, that is the only way that I have found to correct it.
Any source on your A6? In this case, the knob is not responsive at all? But it works well when this issue doesn't appear?
The problem is just as I described it. No more, no less. Switching between the Internal Player and Optical input disables sound going out to the powered speakers (or, I assume, an amp). I don't have any sources that use the coax input, but had intended to buy a Waxwing ADC/phono preamp and use that connection. I am holding off on it now. The sound stays off until you shut the entire unit off, using the toggle switch on the back of the case, and turn it back on again. As I have said repeatedly, turning the power on and off using the knob will start or shut down the unit, but you won't hear sound again until you use the toggel switch on the back. I can play files from a memory stick in the USB port without issue -- because it uses the Internal Player, just as streaming does. I can use the other USB port to connect to an external DAC/amp and play sound through the powered speakers connected to that device. (Again, the problem is with the optical port, for sure. I can't tell if this is also true for the coax port, because I do not have a device that uses such a connection.) Finally, it was something of an ordeal to set up my A6s. It took an entire morning to get both of them working. They initially failed to see my network (through the ethernet or wi-fi connections). Once they finally did so, they refused to accept my Amazon account name. Once they recognized it, they refused to recognize my password. By trial and error, I ultimately figured out that I had to shut the units off and turn them back on each time (using the toggel switch on the back) to get any changes to stick. I have never had an audio device that exhibited this sort of problem. It makes me wish that I had bought A6 Gen 1 versions (which were selling for less at the time) than the Gen 2s (which I assumed would be better and bug-free).
A distributor advised me to assign a fixed IP address to the DMP-A6 that connects to the Internet wirelessly. This has helped to prevent it from losing the signal (which it used to do, from time to time). However, I am still having the issue where I stop getting sound out of the speakers. (i.e. I play a track from Amazon Music or the connected CD player, the progress bar moves and it appears no be playing back -- no error messages of any kind -- but no sound comes out of the powered speakers). The ONLY thing that fixes this is to turn off the A6, using the power button on the back of the unit, then restart. After that the normal button (i.e. pressing the dial) works fine ... until it doesn't. One thing I am trying now is connecting the A6 to a power strip with a surge protector that is always on. (Until now, I had it plugged into another power strip, along with my CD player and powered speakers. When I want to listen to music, I turned on the power strip and then the components that I wanted to use.) My thinking is as follows: I noticed that some other AV components I own like to be plugged in all the time. (Such as my DACs, a preamp, even my Roku box). Some of these can't even be turned off (like the Roku). There is always some minmal amount of current going through them. If I unplug them, it's like doing a factory reset. They forget my settings. So, I got to thinking that maybe something like this is going on with the A6 and plugged it into a power strip that is always left on. If it always plays without issue from this point forward, I will assume that was the problem. Otherwise, I am at a loss to explain what is going on or how to fix it.
