Yes, it uses different drivers according the real type of interface.

Do you mean, external usb hard disk , like Seagate expansion ( ***.seagate.com/it/it/support/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/expansion-desktop/ )
Even are sata internally, works well with zidoo? Even 24 tb or more?

They should indeed. If not the maker/seller of those drives must be contacted not Eversolo!

I'm using a WD Red Pro 26TB as internal drive in my Z3000 Pro. From Windows it shows as 23,6 TB capacity and I'm so far up to using 18,77 TB of it. So far so good.

Hope usb external hard disk is the same.
... I'm afraid to buy , example,24 tb hard disk and notice after months of use...

For sata drives, I am curious if anyone has found an external case with a sata connector? I don't like the idea (or the aesthetics) of having the drive just naked with no enclosure. It looks yucky and welcomes more noise and dirt. But I cannot find an enclosure that uses an actual sata ribbon connector. I know I could use usb, but I want to utilize the sata port if I can.

I think a bare naked hdd makes less noise then an enclosed one. especially when placed on top of soft foam.
the aesthetics can be fixed with a longer cable and move it out of sight.
Get a better looking sata cable in the first place! (ie: SATA II Combo Data Power Cable 60cm Sleeved - MODDIY)

I've been using Vantec Nexstar and CoolerMaster Xcraft eSATA enclosures for other projects for years. But, to be honest, a NAS and cabled Ethernet is a much better proposition.

I am using a NAS right now. But all 4 bays are full, so I was thinking of future expansion.

I have a ReadyNas RN104, it is old now but works when I need it to - it has 4 x Internal HDD bays - each one with 3tb HDDs. I store all my non-UHD films on it. That said it's getting full (0.5 tb free space) and so following your above post, I checked out my NAS and I completely forgot that it has 2 x USB 3.0 connections and 1 x eSATA one. Do these work (if I plug drives into one or more of them) as simple external hard drives, the volumes of which do not affect the main Volume ?

The usb are not being able to be add to a raid. (on my synology) The esata could be an extension port or just 1 extra disk.
(my nas has an extension bay added to the esata (synology DS918+ + DX517 so i went from 4 to 9 bay) in in hindsight i was pretty pleased with the extra money on the synology choice.

I've owned several NAS devices over the years. Mostly Qnap and my current one is from Aoostar, it''s a 4 bay PC basically. In fact it ships with Windows installed. But even for custom OS ones like Qnap and Synology, you should be able to add a usb disk and share it over the network like any other drive. But you will not be able to add it to any existing volume or array.

Hey dont mean to bud in especially on a past thread but im having some trouble and reading this thread im thinking this could be my issue..i have a Z9X with 5 16TB Seagate expansion hdds connected and never had a single issue..recently added a 20tb one and its been working fine..yesterday i added some new mkvs but when i plugged back into z9x the device showed up but there were no files..plugged into my PC and it was fine..plugged into my shield and it worked fine but on zidoo it just shows 0/0..now reason i ask u is that the last transfer of files i made almost maxed the 20tb i think like 18.3tb..and im reading this thread saying it has a capacity of 16/17tb..do u think going over 16tb made the hdd unreadable? And is there any way to reverse it? Any help would be much appreciated

Just out of curiosity, did you rescan the drive when you connected it tothe Z9X?

Yea it doesnt rescan..it just shows device name & says 0/0 SCANNED..was working fine til the last file transfers which put it over 17tb..reads fine everywhere but the z9x

I would force a manual rescan, see if that works.
