    I’ve noticed that after I play an MKV file the info page is nicely updated with resolution, frame rate and if HDR. Is there a way to make this info populate without first playing the movie?
    I’d love to know if it’s HDR prior to hitting “play” so I can set my projector to the correct mode.

    I don't think that you can get info on the file prior playing it.
    Maybe you could analyze it before with your pc, but in the end it's just the same: you have to 'play' it to know all the inf0...;)

    Doesn’t it seem like it should able to populate that information without having to play it? I know when I had a Zappiti it did.

    I analyze the files before feeding the player, so I don't know other ways, sorry...

    What do you mean by this? I know which files are 4K/HDR. But if one of my kids dials up a movie, they have no idea...

    With Home Theater you can get the mediainfo, including these keys in the file name:

    4K = 4K badge
    3D = 3D badge
    HEVC = H.265 HEVC badge
    AVC = H.254 MPEG-4/AVC badge
    DTS-HD MA 5.1/7.1 = DTS-HD High Resolution Audio badge
    Dolby TrueHD = TrueHD badge
    Dolby = Dolby Digital badge
    .iso = ISO badge
    .mkv = MKV badge

    Regards.
