    Hi,

For last one month I am using zidoo x10 with external hard disc plugged into it for watching movies. I am using Yamaha RX V681 AV receiver and EPSON TW8300 Projector.

I have already read few posts regarding my concern but didn't get the solution so posting the issue here.

Whenever I am playing any UHD HDR 10 bit contents, the player can't produce 4K resolution with 10bit colour depth. If I set the resolution to auto, it automatically switches to 1080p resolution with 10 bit colour depth. If I forcefully set the resolution to 4K60p, it outputs 4K with correct frame rate but with 8bit colour depth which is causing the prominent colour banding. I also made the colour depth settings to auto/10/12 but no luck. It is giving HDR BT.2020 colour primaries for both cases.

I opt for 1080p HDR 10bit as the colour banding is absent, although 2160 HDR 8bit looks bit more sharper/detailed with annoying banding.

Am I missing anything or is it a serious bug of this player for not reproducing HDR at 4K resolution with its native 10bit colour depth?

P.S. I am using 18GBPS HDMI cable. The player also successfully switches to correct frame rate according to the video.

I got the same problem with TW9300. I believe that you'll find that the problem might be on both sides due to limitations of the projector (only goes to maximum of 10 gbps) and limitations of Realtek SoC. Try to search information in the Zidoo X9S and X10 forums.

For this projector, you may have to set the color space to YCbCr 4:2:2 and Color depth to 10/12 bit. Since this projector doesn't support 4K YCbCr 4:4:4 10/12-bit, Zidoo is selecting 1080p YCbCr 4:4:4 12-bit in the auto mode.

These are mediainfo of HDR videos, I can see that settings is YUV 4:2:0 10bit, so for this (generally all HDR movies have this settings) HDR video, to get the full reproduction of the input, what settings I will keep in Zidoo, (as the video is 2160p YbCbCr 4:2:0 10bit HDR)?

^^ See here, this projector is capable of producing 4K24p 10bit HDR output for 4:2:2. For 4:2:0 case, what is happening then?

Could you please give the link of that thread?

You have to use 10/12-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 on Zidoo. Anything other setting will only get you 8-bit on your projector.

The table is misleading. When it says SDR, it means 8-bit and HDR means 10/12-bits. The internal processing is only 10-bits on your projector.

Will test it this weekend and give the feedback.

I have the same "problem" but sounds like an Epson limitation feature. Anyway, with "Wesk05" mentioned the best you'll have will be 4.2.2 at 12 bits. But looks great like this, but in some movies will see banding effect
