small bug, sometimes the volume is not reacting to the volume slider. Most of the time after watching a second episode of a 1080 series.
I don't have an HDR10+ TV but I can get HDR10+ to kick in fine using an appropriate EDID (the Vertex shows HDR status). As @Sledgehamma says, this works in "Auto" and "Mapping HDR10" (but not VS10). This is the footage I used to test it: https://mega.nz/file/ZH41Qb6J#pnZmHZ8cYbYHxnUjJWIV0bcZEXLTz4ZDYA5KiN8Czhs
Hi, could you please explain to me more about the operation of VS10 engine and the removal of the so-called color banding? Is it about removing such colored circles as in the photos I post below. Sometimes I see it on some video sources, more often in streaming, but sometimes also on blu ray sources. I have LG OLED C7 TV, unfortunately it is quite old and do not have the "Smooth gradation" function, which supposedly eliminates the problem of the so-called color banding. PS. The newer oled tv from sony also has a "smooth gradation" function and acc. opinion works even better than LG.
No, it's not about removal of colour banding, it's about not introducing it from a clean source. Both the Realtek and Dolby engines are pretty good in this respect it's just the Dolby engine is a bit better (as long as the source is well encoded). Neither would introduce banding to the extent your examples show on a clean source - that just looks like 10-bit material being either encoded or displayed at 8-bit hence the loss of gradation.
Also used to be called DFC (Dynamic false contouring) reduced bit rate / low bandwidth streaming can trigger this as well.
@blenky Which Qled TV do you have? I have a Q9FN, also with HDR10+ support and I can't get HDR10+ also. Now I read (translated from Dutch to English: The product specialist has checked it for you: Via HDMI, HDR10 + was available on the Q9FN from the start. See below the screenshot of the Q9FN with UHD player connected via HDMI. However, UBD content is only available with HDR10. HDR10 + (with HLG support) is only available as streaming content (including Netflix) or via the internal tuner (as UHD TV broadcast). So I think that's probably the problem. source: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/televisie/hdr10-2018-q9fn-via-hdmi/td-p/1506468
Interestingly I have the EDID for a Q9FN and looking at it, the correct VSVD block for HDR10+ is present (90848B is the OUI for HDR Technologies LLC): If I load this EDID, the Z9X outputs HDR10+ as expected. So if you play an HDR10+ file with your TV (in Auto or Mapping HDR10), the Zidoo must actually switch to HDR10+, it has no choice, it's just the TV that ignores the dynamic metadata and presents in HDR10 instead. Very odd that if it only does HDR10+ for streaming, it presents an HDR10+ VSVD block in the EDID - there would be no need.
With latest beta .35 firmware when I engage LLDV as output the 4K MKV of Dunkirk stutters occasionally and picture is a lot darker then with .30 firmware and LLDV engaged and same output settings, switching to HDR Auto fixes it no stutter and picture is brighter again.
At the moment I have the Q700T which has just been released. However I'm swapping it for an LG CX. Internal apps fine for HDR10+ but file played from Z9X direct to TV HDR10 only. None issue now as I'm getting rid of it!
Just updated to latest firmware v6.0.35_G and I'm having instability problems in Ht4 when playing full BD's Issues below seem to be with random full BD's both HD and UHD. All my HD BD's insist on playing in UHD resolution ignoring the frame rate and resolution setting. Direct without menu will play at 1080p Some BD's crash back to HT4 for no reason Some BD's pressing info button the screen goes back to HT4 but the BD continues to play in the background. Stop does not work. Only way to stop playback is the attempt to start it again. This crashes HT4 back to front display.
not familiar with that? it is audio from a .mkv file? is that what you call bitstream? Audio settings are on AUTO, and downmix. thxs
Has anybody noticed red push in skin tones since this update? Color space seems slightly off, noticed it straight away on a HDR movie, then tried a 1080p that I watched on previous firmware and it’s definitely pushing, or blushing ☺️ LG C9, self calibrated.
Try full reboot on the Q9fn maybe that helps but samsung and Zidoo aren't a good marriage because of the different vision of hdmi implementation . On my Q90r it isn't possible to get an 10 bit 4k hdr signal with x20 pro always falls back to 8 bit . for sdr works fine with 10 bit. Connected to the Sennheiser ambeo and problem solved.
An MKV file is just a wrapper for a video/audio stream and the video and audio can have pretty much any codec you like inside that wrapper. If you have Audio in Auto (which is absolutely the right mode if you're not so sure about this stuff) then when the audio is encoded with for example DTS, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD etc then the audio is output in a "bitstream" which just means it's streamed through the player untouched from the source and the device it's connected to (Amp, Receiver, TV etc) does the decoding so the concept of "volume" doesn't actually exist at that stage. In that case the volume control on the player has no effect (you still see the slider move which arguably you shouldn't, but the actual output level is unaffected) If the audio is something simple like PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) then the volume will work because that's just an easily decoded waveform with amplitude that can be changed. I suspect in your case you have a mixture of files, some probably with Dolby Digital (AC3) where the volume won't work and PCM where it will.
ah, thanxs, sounds perfectly logical It is indeed going from Z9 to TV, so i have it now on PCM 2 ch. Works.
Have Zidoo fixed that because last time I checked auto would not pass DTS-HD and would instead passthrough DTS. RAW setting was required to properly send DTS-HD. So auto is the wrong mode for now.
