Help explain Auto29.970/59.94Hz and HDMI auto

Can somebody please explain what advantage HDMI "auto" mode has over just setting it to output at say 1080p@60 or 2160p@60 by default? Either way I will be leaving Auto23.976/24 enabled.

Also can somebody explain these 2 options:

    - Auto29.970/59.94Hz

None of my other media players have this option. What exactly does this do? I have noticed that if I play 59.94 material it says "Change TV system to 59.94Hz" and if I play a 60.000 file, it says "Change TV system to 60.00Hz", so it seems it does output a slightly different framerate, like 23.976/24. But what does the Auto29.970/59.94Hz option do?

    - Enable 4k 23.976Hz

    This one confuses me too.

24 frames is cinema format, 23.976 is related to TV signal and is use for interlaced but reflect on progressive. 30 and 60 are use in NTSC TV but also affected by TV signal 29.970/59.94. The choice is made by encoder, for film the choice go to 23.976 more near original 24fps. Actual good TV can accepted all format not like old one. On blu ray you can have 24fps real cinema...

Right, but how do the auto settings in the player affect playback? What does Auto29.970/59.94Hz do differently if I turn it on or off and play a 29.970 or 59.94 file? What does the player do if I enable that option and play a 30.000 or 60.000 file? I have files in all those various framerates.

What does the player do differently when HDMI is set to auto, versus setting it to 1080p@60 or 2160p@60?

When your output is set to 1080p/60 for example and auto 29/59 is not set, zidoo will do a pull up from 59.94 to 60, some jutter can appear. Pull up or pull down will be done by zidoo if those option are not set. Since good tv may accept all frequency better use frequency the file is encode.

Edit: file at 60, 24 or 25 will be play at same fps if those option are enable.

Auto HDMI will usualy output to the max your tv is able, if set to 1080p/60 (I recommand) and auto change frequency and frame rate is enable, zidoo will automaticly change for example to 4K 23,976 if TV can do it.

I see. Thank you. So do I need both HDMI auto and Auto29.970/59.94Hz enabled, or do they work separately? It seems the Auto29.970/59.94Hz just handles what to do with the file's framerate output.

What if I played a 30.00fps file? There's no mention of that framerate. Does it it get output as 60.00fps regardless of what I set Auto29.970/59.94Hz to?

So with HDMI auto, if I play a 720p file with HDMI auto enabled, and my TV's max resolution is 4k, it upscales to 2160p, but if I set HDMI output to 1080p it will only upscale it to 1080p? Is that how it works? Say a 1080p file is played with HDMI set to 1080p, then nothing changes, but if HDMI is set to auto it would upscale it to 2160p?

For my part I set in quick setting HDMI to 1080p/60 not auto, in setting player I use switch frame rate and resolution. All video will be play at same rate and resolution the file is encoded.

Where does "Enable 4k 23.976Hz" fit in, on vs off? Does that only have an effect if you are playing 4k files? So if you leave that option on, and have HDMI auto, and play a 480p/720p/1080p file, does it upscale to 4k or output as 1080p?

Sorry for so many questions, just trying to make sure I understand how these options work together.

If you select switch frame rate only zidoo will upscale to resolution you set: for example if set to 2160p in HDMI and play a file 720p zidoo will upscale to 2160p at frame rate of the file.

My TV Upscale is better then zidoo so I use upscale from my TV. If you prefer zidoo upscale then choose HDMI 2160p in zidoo and use only change frame rate.

    Enable 4k 23.976Hz says:

"If the current resolution is 4K and the automatic frame rate function is turned on. When this switch is turned off and the frame rate is 23.976, only 24Hz output will be switched. It will have better device compatibility."

When it says "the frame rate is 23.976, only 24Hz output will be switched", does it mean it works that way for both 23.976 and 24.000 files? Because it sounds confusing to me. If that switch is enabled, and I play a 23.976 or 24.000 file, what happens?

Well in my case, I'd probably want my TV to do the upscaling, so would I set HDMI to auto then, to send the TV whatever resolution the file is? Examples:

    HDMI auto:
    ---------------
480p/720p/1080p/2160p file > outputs as native file resolution 480p/720p/1080p/2160p (TV does upscaling)

    HDMI 1080p:
    -----------------
480p/720p/1080p/2160p file > outputs everything as 1080p, downscales or upscales as necessary

    HDMI 2160p:
    -----------------
480p/720p/1080p/2160p file > outputs everything as 2160p, downscales or upscales as necessary

Is this right, or am I still confused?

If file is encode at 23.976 and that option is select it will be play at 23.976 and file at 24 will be play at 24. If not file will be play at 24. I do not found that on my setting sorry.

    Absolutly right!

Edit: If you select only frame rate. If you select switch frame rate and resolution even if set HDMI 1080p the resolution will change.

My settings are HDMI 1080p/60 but switch frame rate and resolution. This way everything is play in native file frame rate and resolution, it will be the same at HDMI auto.

Where would I find "switch frame rate and resolution". I think that's where I'm getting a bit confused too - I can't seemt o find that setting. Am I just not seeing it? Which menu is it under?

    Oh, I see - you mean "Auto23.976/24"?

So If I enable "Auto23.976/24" and "Auto29.97/59.94Hz" and "Enable 4k 23.976Hz", and set the player to HDMI 1080p/60, everything will play back in native frame rate and resolution?

    What firmware do you use?

I'm on 1.4.12, which is what the box shipped with. I just received it a few days ago so I'm very new to this player. I know there are two newer firmwares but the box says it's up to date and I'm afraid of updating as I hear a couple bugs may have been introduced I'd rather not worry about.

I'm assuming for PAL 25.000/50.000 - those will both be converted to 60.00fps, no matter what, correct, even if I set everything like above? - My TV can't display PAL/50Hz signals
