From firmware v6.1.10, the 1619 players now allow EDIDs to be uploaded to override the EDID presented by the display, amp or soundbar.

Amongst other things this allows the Zidoos to present an LLDV output with colour primaries that a non-LLDV display will understand.

Effectively this allows true Player Led Dolby Vision to be viewed on a non Dolby Vision display since Player Led processing allows the dynamic tone mapping to happen in the player and the display receives a static gamma according to the St.2084 standard.

You can even tailor this tone mapping to the display brightness by adjusting the max nits level in the Dolby block in the EDID.

There are quite a few applications for this feature and more information will be added to this first post as people get to grips with it.

**Please be aware that at present this feature isn't fully implemented to allow LLDV playback on an HDR display. In order for this to work on most HDR displays, a standard HDR "signal" is needed to kick the display into its standard HDR mode (an HDR SEI message) .

In order to use the LLDV hack you must be able to manually select HDR in the display (this is quite common for projectors but not with TVs)**

Here are a few EDIDs for the experimentalists!

And a slightly tweaked version of the one included in the Zidoo. This has the colour primaries slightly tweaked nearer BT.2020 (because of the byte allocation in the Dolby Block this can never be 100% accurate nor does it need to be):

Hello, will that solve the HDMI Range problem for the DV VS10 for TVs which do not have DV? Thx

    (Answering question from FW thread)

Not quite sure what you're asking for - when you create a Dolby Block in the EDID you specify Min and Max luminance. Min is generally zero and Max is the defined by the display.

The Dolby block in your display decodes as:

    DV Version: 2
    DV DM Version: v3.x
DV Interface: standard and low latency 422/444/RGB 10/12bit
    2160p60: supported
    YUV422 12bit: supported
    Global Dimming: supported
Backlight Control: not supported, default 100 nits
    RED Primary: 0.641, 0.340
    GREEN Primary: 0.320, 0.613
    BLUE Primary: 0.148, 0.043
    MAX/MIN Luminance: 372 / 0.267 nits

So it already does TV Led RGB at approx. 400nits

    In a roundabout way, yes.

It doesn't fix the root problem but it allows you to use a mode on a non-DV display (BT.2020 LLDV) that doesn't have that problem.

However, this requires that the Zidoo send an HDR message to the display to kick it into HDR but it doesn't do that yet - I'm currently talking to Zidoo about that.

It looks very technical, but I would wait for your opinion for my QLED Smasung and the procedure. Thx

Once Zidoo have fixed it so an HDR message can be sent I will post an easy to follow guide - it all sounds technical, but it's not too bad I promise :)

Where does all this leave people who use HDfury Vertex2 's ?

No different - the Vertex gives far more flexibility and functionality, so you just leave the EDID setting switched off.

thank you Mark, we need it, and the day you won't be on the forum to help us with all these options we will be in trouble...

    Hi.

    - My TV supports HDR10, HDR10 +, HLG and DolbyVision

So if I understand correctly, EDID is a feature for TVs without DolbyVision support ?
So if I have a TV with DV support, is it not worth starting EDID and using it, as it will not be of any benefit to TV "DV"?
For TVs with DobyVison support, should I set "prefer" to DV or LLDV ? What's the difference? I mean visual.

Is it really a benefit? For example, how does LLDV work? Technically it can't display something better than the HW television allows, right?

    - When I use SDR to HDR, the image is too burnt.
    - When I use SDR or HDR to LLDV profile, the image is too dark. I would compare it to a movie that is set to 0-255 instead of limited ranges.
    - I also don't understand HDR10 + mapping. When I set the HDR10 + mapping for HDR movies, the HDR10 signal is still sent.
In some article, someone wrote that ZIDOO strengthens HDR10 + but shows HDR10, is it possible to verify it? My TV only shows HDR10, not HDR10 + in any case.

    Thank you for the explanation

PS : In any case, I like the fact that ZIDOO has added the option in the menu (which looks a little wild) to set LVVD for SDR + HDR (and run other combinations, as DUNE has), so I don't have to switch it manually every time ;)

    Ahh, so I haven't bought an expensive HDMI Splitter then  - I just leave Vertex2 using existing EDID ( Full + BT.2020 1000nit 422-444-RGB LLDV + HDR10+ ) - yes?

My idea: I want your colour config combined with my RGB bin.

On the face of it no - there's no reason for you to use the EDID setting, however there are other stituations besides procuring LLDV on an HDR display where this setting will help.

For example, sometimes, your cabling may not be able to live up to the EDID, so in that case a 400MHz (lower bandwidth) EDID can be uploaded to account for this.

Occasionally, the amp EDID may screw up the TV EDID - especially if it's a particularly complicated EDID and there's an overflow (EDIDs are only 256 bytes) so you can fix it and upload a new one.

There is a benefit to using LLDV in some setups, but the variables are immense so this isn't really the discussion to get into that..

As far as HDR10+ goes - that's simply HDR10 with added metadata - the video signal is exactly the same, so if that metadata is missing the signal will be HDR10 by definition. There is no "HDR10 > HDR10+" conversion.
